Not to mention OHIO is home to the biggest freaking swap meets I have ever seen. There is also a slew of manufactures in Ohio surprisingly enough. There is also Jegs and Summit retail stores.
Pretty much sums it up! If you're into "rusty gold", you've hit the mother lode! The Northeast isn't called the rust belt fer nutin'! As mentioned, Thompson has a couple of great nostalgia events and Summit Motorsports Park (Norwalk) is the best track you'll ever encounter. The Baders do a fantastic job and treat even the novice racer like they were John Force. I have a friend that goes to Z Max in Charlotte and he likes Norwalk better. You are also not that far from some of the best swap meets in the northeast. There is Canton, Carlisle and Hershey just to name a few. Welcome to the Great White North(east)!
So what brings you to Mentor from So Cal? Springfield swap meet is great. TONS of small cruise ins every night of the week! A big show of some type at least 2 weekends a month. www.countrycruiser.com has a ton of cruise ins and car shows all year round along with bigals. Theres a ton of good drag strips in Ohio with big races all season with in 3 hours of you. You will also be with in an after noon drive to get to Detroit, Indy, Kentucky, or Pensylvania. The snow is going to be a slap in the face but you'll get over it. I think it helps to motivate you knowing you've got to crank some shit out before March to start making it to your big shows. And yes there's a boat load of HAMBers.
rust free in cali means a car free of rust rust free in ohio means the rust is free when you buy the car as far as stuff to do goes there is quite a bit going especailly if you dont mind a little travelling there must be a reason goodguys holds its biggest event in ohio .....right?
hell yeah, Ohio rocks. good guys in Columbus is unbelievable. the dave and eds swap meets http://www.autoevents.com/schedule.htm they have one coming up in canton in November. shows are over in October, so your done for this anyway. dropt out has a show this weekend if your in to the lowered scene http://www.droptout.com/droptndestroyed9/dnd9ad.jpg Dragway 42 is an icon but has become a little warn.
I think the car scene is great here as others have said. But, I don't know if I'd want a hamb friendly car as a daily driver here. Winters aren't friendly on cars. When your here, your more than welcome to contact me. My shop is a town over in willoughby where the toys are, and I live right off rt 2 in mentor.
Grew up in NE ohio. Still go back there (from Detroit) for lots of car events. Keep a gasser in a shed near Mentor. Thompson Gasser Reunion is a can't miss. Ohio probably has the highest per capita number of gear heads in the Solar System (although I haven't been to Pluto yet and those Uranians drive some wild s**t.)
Grew up in Ohio. Fun car stuff. Lots of snow with the lake effect, beautiful scenery everywhere. Check out Hinkley park rock climbing and buzzards, Loudenville canoeing, Brecksville water fall, Rocky River park.
Shit, you'll practically be Don Moyer's neighbor! One things for sure - you'll DEFINITELY learn to appreciate the GOOD weather here!!! ha ha ha
Hey, Carpunk! PM me and I'll send you a personal invitation to the CARS & PARTS SPRINGFIELD SWAP MEET & CAR SHOW, about 2 hours south of Mentor. It's 129 acres of car fun. And welcome to Ohio!
I grew up in Virginia. It is definately a lot of fun doing donuts, with the top down, in a huge parking lot, right after it snows all night.
welcome carpunk ohio has a great car scene, shows, swapmeets & drag strips. i go to stark county fairgrounds, canfield fair grounds and randolph fair grounds for there swapmeets and shows. magnolia and quaker city dragstips are great to. the steel valley nationals in salem are cool a big weekend car cruise and show. the glenmoor gathering in canton is killer for some really rare and cool stuff from across the states & canada. canton also has the classic car museum and motocar portfolio if your interested in buying a new old ride. plus there is summit racing in tallmadge i have seen some great shows there with a hell of a turnout. that should keep ya busy for a little bit
For the record, the next CARS & PARTS SWAP MEET event in Springfield, Ohio, is Nov 9th and 10th. That's a Friday and Saturday. You can check it out at www.Ohioswapmeet.com, all one word, if you like.

Make a note of the Choppers Rod and Custom show in April. Very good, old fashioned indoor show, worth the 45 minute ride from Mentor. It's kind of the kickoff to Spring around here.
Don't forget Annabelle's http://www.thundercars.net/slides/1209042243OH/ Or Hutter Performance http://www.thundercars.net/slides/1206301640OH/
