i notice the oil filter adapters for the early small blocks all say won't fit the 67 nova 283 or 327.......how come? i have a 67 nova 283 and i noticed where the oil sealing ring goes is not grooved like the others, is this the reason?
If it's an early SB, the adapter installed is for a canister filter. You can replace it with the later type
it has no adapter on it. it just looks different, than say my 348. the groove where the gasket goes actually has no groove, no inside wall to the groove like the 348. looks like the o' ring could slip out real easy. almost looks as though it needs a flat gasket instead of the o'ring, actually a square ring.
Does it have to do with the adapter, when installed, maybe pushin the filter too far down, thus bumping the steering linkage? The oil pan is special for the Novas too...
maybe thats the problem, i may be trying to put an adapter on there that it doesn't need to begin with. i'll take a fresh look at it tomorrow. this engine came to me with nothing in the oil filter area and i assumed it required a cannister, which i don't have, so i decided to go this route. maybe i just took a wrong turn. thanks for the info.........
The block for a Nova/Chev II is also different. The oil filter is sunken in / recessed. That may be the difference you are asking about
