Well the leak I've been chasing is one of the oil galley plugs at the back of a 350 Chevy, just above the end of the cam. What is best to seal those? Form-a-gasket 2 was suggested but on the Prematex site they mentioned that for valve covers, oil pans, etc. Permatex suggests Form-a-gasket 1 for threaded connections. That is what this is.

    I'm easily confused. Any suggestions?

Id bet some good old pipe dope applied properly would work..
**** even teflon tape should work Just start it a bout 2 threads from the end of the plug..You can even get it in 1/4 inch width too. One thing id suggest if its a rebuilt motor .. Make sure someone didnt ram it in with an impact and crack the block. That could be fixed too though. Glad you finally found it

  3. The biggest thing is to get the plug & the block threads clean of oil- otherwise whatever you use, it will slide off. Mop off the excess oil & hit the plug & threads with a shot or two of brake cleaner.

So far as the sealant, I'm with Dave- I use Teflon pipe compound from the hardware store. Make sure to use the kind that is OK for use with gas, oil, natural gas, etc. Works fine. Loc***e 242 will work too.

Not so crazy about Teflon tape as I've gone through other people's engines where tape was used & made its way into the oil system (put on the plug wrong). Tape, however, will work. :)

I use Permatex Aviation sealer on all of my plugs.
