Quick question that I can’t seem to find the answer for.

I have an older Mallory Promaster coil, which I bought used for my Hyfire box and I was wondering what level the oil should be at inside?

probably needs to cover everything inside, but still some extra room for expansion, etc.

pictures of your coil, so we can see for sure what you're talking about? The Promaster instructions don't mention oil, and say it can be mounted any orientation. The older Voltmaster instructions mention which way to mount the coil, but not about the oil.

I think the real question would be how are you going to put it in? And also, what kind of oil would be safe? That's two questions.

Currently the best pic I have, from when I bought it. I’ll grab a better one after work

    Promaster part no. 28880

there’s a rubber bung on the underside of the coil.

as for what kind of liquid, it’s almost certainly mineral oil, but more research would be done before filling/replacing anything

how much oil does it have in it now?

is there any evidence that oil has leaked out of it?

it’s just generally dirty from sitting, as for the precise amount I would have to measure.

it seems like it has more air than I would think, sloshes pretty easily but I am not experienced with these things which is why I’m asking

yeah, they slosh. If none has leaked out, then just install the coil and don't worry about it. Or get a more stockish ignition system, and a normal coil, and don't worry about it.

    Thanks a bunch!

Currently sticking with this setup to help with nitrous retarding and multi step limits (trans brake car)

Holley owns Mallory now, might be a good place to contact.

  11. Replacing oil in a coil is not on any list I have ever seen. Coils aren't completely full. Years ago when Mallory had their truck at national events for mag testing, I watched the demo of coil placement. On a super mag, the coil needs to be mounted horizontal instead of vertical for best results. It would miss fire in vertical. If you have noticed all of the newer efi coils are solid wound and exposed.
