So you can use a resistor to increase oil pressure instead of shimming the relief valve.

I was at our local race track during a track day many years ago when a Holden Commodore was stopped entering the track while driving down pit lane.
They spotted a trail of oil on the asphalt .
When they lifted the hood there was oil everywhere , but the gauge was still showing 30psi pressure.

It had one of those cheap chain store oil pressure mechanical gauges with the plastic lines.
It had melted and "sealed" 30psi into the gauge.

Sounds like an installer failure. FWIW , my ot Chevy pickup with factory gauges used a nylon pressure line , lasted 419000 miles over a 50 year period .

yeah, I'm an idiot...but I did notice the smoke the time the plastic line melted on the header on <----this truck, and stopped before it dumped out much oil. That was a long time ago, never used plastic since, and have become a lot more picky about routing lines.

And more recently I noticed the gauge at zero on the MG after it pumped out all the oil, I really did mean to order a new flex line for the gauge, but just forgot. That one got a trailer ride home, which is a rarity for me. It's not easy to re-plumb british stuff on the side of the road in the US.

I also notice the oil pressure fluctuating in the Corvette when it's a bit low, an idiot light would not help with that. But it also never got low enough to cause damage.

The corvair was the fun one, the light came on around 4 psi, and it would get there hot idle in gear, so I learned to pop it into neutral so it wouldn't bother me. I removed the gauge I had added, because it was so depressing, before I went on the 5000 mile trip in the car. I did change the bearings when I got home. That really helped.

    It certainly was!
He had a new expensive engine , but everything under the hood was a *********** of wires and hoses etc
    He was very very lucky.

He blocked off the leak and filled it up with oil [there appeared to be no damaged]
Also a good sport as well, I saw him give the official a 6-pack of beer after the meeting for "saving his engine"

But me personally , I don't like heat and nylon together [I've only used plastic line mechanical pressure gauges for diagnostic purposes]

same here but I don’t want to be the Guinea pig so I asked here to see if there was any to avoid but it’s looking like I will be using the T fitting and 2 senders.
