I have spent the last 2 hours looking thur old tread trying to figure out how far the pick-up screen needs to be from the bottom of the oil pan on my sbc. I have a new oil pump, pan and the pick-up for that pan. I know I will need to tack weld the pick-up to the pump I just want to get it right the first time and not burn up a rebuilt motor

    thanks

    1/4" to 3/8" clearance.... :)

  3. i used to put a plate of steel over the pickup of the above size and put the pan on without a gasget and give it a whack until the pan seated and then tack it
of course the engine was upsid down on a engine stand

Also use a AC PF-35 or eqivalent (sp?) oil filter.. It's longer that the standard size small block oil filter..
