Hope you all enjoyed the holidays... and Bday Eric.THANX for the add since I have no other friends yet.made me feel REAL Appreciated:D

Well I have Tank all cleaned and sealed up.The 239 up and running. kinda

So Thinking that I'm to cool for school I went for a drive around the block:cool: I made it to the corner And Then I noticed when I turn the wheel the Bracket comes away from the dash:eek:.I cant figure out why.I check the to support screws and they seem secure but one hangs lower than the other and when i was tighting it started bending the upper support. and I really couldnt see where its all suppose to mount. What should i do?
    how does that mount in?
I cant see up there very well the last owner painted the dash black on both sides.
    GEESH Some people's children
I dont even what tell what else they did to this car.LIKE lets put RTV on all the gaskets...on the carb gasket...which is now leaking
and intake gasket which may leak soon since gas eats RTV
and valve cover gaskets. But lets NOT fix the rocker that wasnt holding down the valve when they put the valve cover gaskets on. TAPTAPTAP
SO you know how there is SOME People well they have children.
    Who are RTV Crazy

I would back both of those bolts all the way out and clean the threads really good and then see if they go back in nicely (do the process with one, then the other so the mount doesn't fall down). If not, use a tap to clean the threads in the mounts really good. The spray happy previous owners may have gummed it all up in there.

Also...have you checked to see that the are steering box bolts are tight?

There are three of them....they go through the frame to the steering box mounts.

The steering column drop bracket bolts can be a real nightmare, meghan.

First, take them both out. They have Phillips screwdriver heads as I recall. Inspect both bolts. If they have "rings" where the threads are gone you'll need to get new ones...or something that will work in their place. These are application-specific fasteners, however, so that may take some doing. Your best bet may be to find socket head bolts with round heads as replacements.

The bolts don't thread into the dash, but into the pedal support bracket behind the dash. With any luck the captured nuts on the pedal support bracket are not stripped. You'll be able to see the threads though the holes in the dash using a flashlight. If they are stripped you'll need to drill out the holes and use conventional nuts/lock washers on the back side.

Once you've got good bolts and either good captured nuts or conventional nuts ready to go, your next step is to loosen the four bolts which hold the master cylinder in place in the engine compartment. Don't remove them, just back them off a half inch or so.

Loosening the master cylinder bolts allows some looseness in the pedal support bracket. Which, in turn, will allow you to properly align the steering column drop bracket with the holes in the dash and with the captured nuts on the pedal support bracket.

Failure to loosen the master cylinder bolts will cause the steering column drop bolts to misalign with the captured nuts on the pedal support bracket and become stripped as yours most probably are. (Go ahead, ask me how I know this...)

Once you've got the steering column drop correctly fastened with your new hardware, retighten the master cylinder bolts and you're good to go.

    Good luck. :)
