I really need to replace the fricken vacuum wiper motor. I'm sick of them not working even after completely cleaning and re-lubing them.
Who makes a good electric conversion for them? Something that is a bolt -in without fabbing anything up. My vintage air takes a lot of room under the dash and I have 'just' enough room for the stock vacuum motor. Any of you guys do a conversion?
    Thanks

I recently bought the newport wipers as well. Luckily my install should be pretty easy, I have the dash completely removed to be painted in my 56. I already pulled the vacuum motor out, and held the newport in place, just ran out of time. Looks like it should be easy though.

I put the Newport setup in my '51 about 12 years ago. I'm a ****py mechanic and it went fairly smoothly; they've been working since then without missing a beat. Now I need to do it again on my '56.

  11. Ok , I used a wiper motor and arm/pivot out of the tailgate (rear door ) of a mid 90's Toyota Surf (possibly called 4runner in the usa ?) the model code is LN130 .
I took the swing arm from the old vac*** motor and fitted it to the japanese pivot which I mounted on a bracket and bolted up where the va*** motor had mounted originally.
Then I made a bracket to mount the japanese motor to the inside of the firewall (Guys with LHD may need to hang it across the other side) .
The relay arm from the motor to the pivot (now in the centre of the original ford wiper rack) can be shortened or lengthened to suit .
Doing the conversion this way gives 2 speeds and also keeps the factory "clap hands" motion for the stock wiper arms /blades etc.
Hopefully these photos will load ( I'm better at fixin old cars than driving a computor!)
Anyone who needs more info or a better pic of something is welcome to pm me and I'll email more. Rod.

  12. I must be a little stupid? I can't get photos into my post here so I've added them to my Album (Michelle's ranchwagon project) Like I said above if anyone wants more info or pics send a pm with an email addy for better pics.
