I have been thinking about this for a couple of years... I am thinking of doing an off-shoot of the Type 20 Headlight Run labled "Canvas"...

You can probably see where this is going... I would like to know YOUR top 10 Living Rod / Custom related artists (HAMB and Non- Hamb included)...

    Thanks!

Im doing the same thing with toasters and lawn sprinklers. I call it the "Barnett lives down the street and will probably do me a favor" line of toasters and lawn sprinklers. Kinda catchy eh?

    So heres my top 10........

    1-5 Barnett
5-10 Tied with McPhail, Franco, Weesner and fellow hot rod family man Hamilton neck and neck.

That other Texas Dan would be in there too.

    Brush is my latest hero......

Barnett is second until he paints the windows in my shop then he's back in the #1 slot.

Thom Taylor supplied the art for our car club logo...so he's in the top 3.

    B. Drake is another amazing artist....

    Alan Johnson,Joe Sulpy Sr,Glen Weisgerber,Bill Beckner,
    Peter Gunn,Kenny Youngeblood,Corey Harder,
    Steve Stanford,Thom Taylor,Chip Foose.

Of course I'm forgetting at least as many equally talented artists.

Fav HAMB artists include, but not limited to: Jeem and Safariknut.

  13. These are in no particular order;they're ALL great:
Steve Stanford(illustrator extrodinaire and Left-handed striper)

    Glen Weisgerber(Airbrush,striper,sign artist,drummer,there's nothing Glen can't do)
Alton Gillespie(Once spent 3 YEARS painting an offshore boat!)
Dwayne Connot(If anyone could letter the Constitution on the head of a pin,Dwayne could!)
Kenny Youngblood(Another one who does it all;his airbrushed chrome is UNREAL!)
Alan Johnson(Another GREAT all around artist)
Art Himsl(A great innovator in paint and a great person to talk with)
    Jeff Norwell(EVERYBODY knows BRUSH!)
Donn Varner(One of my inspirations to start striping and still going strong)
Jack Lindenberger(This guy does things with a striping brush you have to SEE to believe!)

There are hundreds more that I appreciate but those are ones that come immediately to mind.

If you are just looking for a pro to do a very competent illustration of something you already have in your head you might consider a G-job from a designer at CALTY if you have any "in's" over there there.

I have always been impressed by Steve Standfords designs. I like Keith Weesner's style and Von Dutch is my inspiration, not just his art but his aloofness of character.
But since being on the HAMB, I have been exposed to so many artists that the world in the most part will never be aware of. Being seen to be great for any thing is relative and very subjective, just like art itself. Geoff aka Whodaky

    Great responses, keep em coming!

Doc, my pie-in-the-sky dream would be to have "a number" of upcoming people do what they thought would be cool to their "Blank Slate's", and then do a "release" for each one... I have a vision of a bio on each artist, to be released with pictures of their design on the site (and subsequent links to their own sites for people interested in purchasing their work).

There is a shit load of talent out there... I think it would be killer if E&J would come to be known as a friend and promoter of it... We'll see...

Oh yeah, guys... LIVING people make better suggestions for this activity [IMG]

Ten isn't enough; we need a "top 27" or something. Here are some more guys who certainly qualify in the top echelon:
    - Joe Henning
    - Tom Daniel
    - Ed Newton
    - Harry Bradley
    - Robert Williams
    - Dave Bell
    - Keith Weesner
    - Jeem Smith
    - Mike Desmond

Right at the top of my list is Rex Burnett (may he rest in peace) who did the absolute best pen-and-ink cutaway drawings for the old Hot Rod.
Then, I like the work of Kenny Youngblood, Steve Sanford, Lance Sorchik, our own Whodaky, Dave Peters (who designed the paint scheme for my '33 Buick-gotta plug him when I can), Norm Grabowski, Gene Winfield, Sam Foose, Marcel DeLay and sons, Ron Covell, Dean Jeffries , Larry Watson and ALL the guys that hammer and bang away out in their garages to produce all the cars that we salivate over week in and wek out. Here's to you, guys!
