A buddy of mine, gave me these parts today, consist of a 29 ford truck frame, model T cowl(missing windshiled frame) some kind of chevy drop axle, and a half of a model a body. Now what? My first build..... What would you guys and gals do? Cheers Flying Terrier
Pictures would help. But sounds to me like you have a frame and a body, so getting a donor vehicle, with a motor, trans, rear axle, pedals and everything else you need sounds like a good start.
I always start by getting the frame and body on a jig table get everything square. And it looks like you will need a ton of parts. Good luck
I can see the picture now.. that back half model A looks rough, going to take some work and skill. If you want the body that far back, I'd look for a long engine.. maybe a nice straight 8, to fill in that huge space between the firewall and the axle.
I have a pair of cutoff window posts (the top part that you're missing) that might fix yours if you decide to build a sedan, you can have them if that's the direction you decide to build.
Yeah I just did a very quick mock up before the rain came, it's too far back for my liking, I want to make it a truck again. the rear end is way shot. Thanks for the correction I thought it was a model T cowl. Is there some sort of parts book about model A's? something I can reference and know what i'm even looking at? Thanks for all the replys!
Electrodude, Yes I really need some sort of windshield post/ frame. I'd like to build a hard top truck.
Agree,'28-'29.Frame looks Model T to me. For me,there would be two options; 1 Build a Model A.Keep the cowl, sell on the rest of the parts. 2 Build a Model T(if it's a T frame).Keep the frame, sell on the rest. Whichever way you decide to go,you've got a lot of parts to find. Good luck with the build.
Mark, Yeah i have my hands full, I'm thinking more of option #2, or mybe #3( sell everything get something with more parts). the more I look at that pic the more I say "holy crap"
Ha Ha!If you decide on option #3,and get a more complete car,I wouldn't sell your parts until you're certain you can't use any of them.I can't count the times I've sold stuff ,to find out later that I need it.
Mark you are totally right, I stopped selling my Triumph bike parts. not worth giving up..... I'm really confused now. I now know it's a model A cowl, but is it really a model T frame? Second thing.... if this is a "A" cowl And a "T" frame how the heck do I channel this? Honestly it looks half cowled as it is? Sorry for the ignorant questions. I'm usually a mean go getter but this thing has me stumpped. I'm not trying to polish a turd, just drive it on the road -Flying terrier
That's a T frame, but it doesn't matter because you'll be making your own subrails and body mounts You're welcome to the posts for the cost of shipping, just let me know.
Electro Thank you I think I will take you up on that. I have no problems, making a wood body, or building my own body mounts, or fiberglassing a roof, but is there any parts books or way I could see what these rusty holes are supposed to be? -Flying terrier
