I am going to be buying a '54 Plymouth real soon, but the guy said he isnt sure if he has the title. well, ok, here is the back ground on this. The guy I am buying the car off of, got this car (as well as many many more) from his Father when he died. He doesnt exactly knwo what he has (value wise) but seems like a real nice guy. He said he doesnt know if he has a title for the car I want. What I was wondering was, Can I get a new title with a bill of sale? If I cant get the thing 100% legaly mine, I am not going to buy it. Any input would be great.

Take the bill of sale and get it notorized. Call the DMV and ask to talk to the lady that is in charge of all that stuff. I forget her name. Tell her your situation...send her a copy and voila you have a title.

    Option number 2:
Present bill of sale at a GOOD tag agent and they will send it in to the DMV for you. It's the same place. Also place the sell price in your bill of sale. That's what they base your taxes on now.

The DMV is on Lincoln Blvd here in OKC. Don't go down there....you'll leave ready to choke someone. If you need any more help holler......

  3. <font color="green"> My Galaxie didn't have a title when I got it. I just went to Judge Dobbins here in Tahlequah with a bill of sale and quite a bit of paperwork that came with the car. He had his staff run a check for whether or not the car had been reported stolen and then wrote me an "all clear" for a new title to be made. One trip to the DMV and I had a new one on the way. </font>

There seems to be a decent Tag AGency own the street from me, in Jneks. Right across the street is the local DMV, its where I had to go to get my Ma drivers licence swapped to a OK. I would assume I could go there. But thanks for the tip, I was realy leary of buying the car (for the last hour or so thinking about that) untill you told me that.

The actual DMV headquarters for the whole state is here in OKC. The local branch may be able to hook you up. I wouldn't worry about it. If you have any other problems, pm me and I'll give you the lowdown on my stuff.

Oklahoma is a reasonably easy state to get titles for orphan cars. All I have to add is you need to use the bill of sale form from the state (available at the tag office). Other than that it is pretty straight forward deal.
