Novel idea, but even if it was actually tried, i can't see how 'we' as a group would be able to ALL be on the same page at the same time...
Every time i've seen a business partnership form, it never work's out as expected. And those were small one's by people who knew each other and had history.
I can't see how a group of this size, even if you were to take 1/3 of us, would be able to make this a smooth operation.
Sooner or later, probably sooner, the **** would hit the fan and people would have different ideas of how 'we' should do this or 'we' should do that...
And yes, i know this wouldn't be a for profit deal, more so to cater to the HAMB community in our transport need's being funded by 'us'..but all is see is people eventually getting pissed because they would feel thier item should have been delivered before so-and-so's...
It happen's, a LOT...even to the best of friends.
    Again, cool idea, really..
I just don't think it'll work....but i've been wrong many time's before and this could be yet another.

Why don't we make the "Relay" more accessable like having a notice where to put relay's available or needed. I've seen them in Wanted & also General discussion. My last one available I put in general discussion. No one needed transport but a couple of Hamb guys at least gave it a BTTT.

Would the Moderators or Ryan let us know what they think is best. Maybe Cl***ifieds Misc. ?????

    Oh well movin/on

Would be pretty hard to beat the speed and accuracy of the major haulers that have this down to a science.

Imagine the criss-crossing meandering traveling that vehicle would do. While it might be good for the guy driving, I' drather pay the going rate and have my stuff in a day or two.

Pay a guy $10/hr to drive and you pay 60-70% in addition to that hourly. (Uncle Sam and such)
    Then buy a truck
    Insure the truck
    Maintain the truck
    Fuel the truck
    Special DOT licenses
Oh and don't forget the permits you need to haul stuff interstate
    And road tolls

Non-profit would not exempt you from these things.

Ever moved parts long distance? I've linked 2 groups of gearhead buddies in different states and been the pack mule for their dealings because of work commuting back n forth. Even when dealing in "scam-free" items between friends there were enough h***les (and financial loss) that I quit offering transport after a year or two.

First thing to figure out is where you're gonna warehouse all this stuff after 1/2 of the buyers can't be found on the driver's schedule.

Seriously, I'm tellin' you: we need a HAMB account with ALL the major carriers. That would afford us the rate we need... just mention you're with the HAMB upon arriving at the UPS Store or something. They'll look you up, and you'd get the discount.

Maybe we could make it so each of these accounts could not be billed to the HAMB, but rather, required the shipper to pay. The UPS Store guy could mention this before giving the discount.

Just a thought... if you can't beat 'em, join 'em...
