but how do you get the tailshaft out of an early ford torque tube!!! I got a couple and no way can I get the sucker out. Looks like my life long bad luck with the ins and outs continues!! any help much appreciated.
Mark: Try a new heading...maybe "My torque tube has a new tattoo"?? Sandown swap on Sunday. You gonna go?
Wish I could, but I'm working a 12 hour night shift Saturday night, and Sue is working thru the day on Sat as well, so I'll be in the land of Zed's. gotta organise a pickup soon though!!!
Is it a lack of equipment making it hard to get out? We have a 15 ton power hammer at work... THAT will get anything out of anything!we put a stone in and mashed it once, blood came out. have you tried heat/and a press? See you sunday Peddro.
I thought there is a central bearing in some of the torque tubes and you have to get it undone b4 you can get the tailshaft out.
Hey Mark, Maybe I got lucky or it was broke but mine just sliped out. It was pretty oily around the centre bearing with no surface rust. Are you trying to pull the tailshaft OUT or the torque tube OFF.The tube has to come off, as the solid shaft is pinned at the diff. Geno....
Geno, its the one standing up in the pile of crap next to the gantry in my shed. It has always been off the rear end. It has a 6 spline yoke on it so I assume that its is a 36 torque tube.
Sounds like it's rusted to the bearing. A big fuck off hammer and a lump of wood with a bunch of wd40 could be the fix.
no middle bearing in the 35/36 driveshaft. Pull the bolts at the banjo yoke on the outer tube.....then find the pin back there in the yoke and drive it out. Maybe you have a different year? The 35/36 rears have the bones that mount the spring in the rear. Steve
