plenty of stuff out there, no one wants to spend any money on it though. Everyone still wants to buy stuff at prices from 20yrs ago.

And yet some are still selling at market prices set in 2007. Not directed at anyone in particular.

  8. Exactly! If EVERYBODY still wants to pay prices from 20 years ago then that is what something is worth regardless of what you want to get out of it. Todays economy is not the same as 2 or 3 years ago.

I always love the comment of nobody wants to pay me what my stuff is worth.

I think you need to define more precisely what it is your are searching for in this thread or post a wanted ad in the classifieds.

Wow, 4K for running Model A coupes... I have been looking for several years and never came close to anything like that - you would have to double that number down here.

You are one lucky man! I have not seen a deal like that on any "A" since the late 80's!

Hoarding, collecting, stashing, it's a fine line. I am allways on the hunt for vintage parts, and pass them on to some one who needs them, at a fair value. My collection is constantly changing, and i sometimes come across stalled projects that i don't need and try and turn some one on to them.

I saw a members signature that said... " i'm not hoarding i'm stocking my estate sale"

figger how far you can travel and how you are gonna transport your find back to your home. FIRST RULE-- GO PREPARED TO BRING THE PURCHASE HOME!
use craiglist/ used cars----- in those areas you are comfortable taking a trip to look and return unhappy, disappointed, and empty-handed-----
using the years of project you are looking for.

even craigslist/ auto parts has some hidden gems!

st louis, little rock, tulsa, memphis would be a trip that could be handled FROM KC in weekend. beyond that there are any number of cities as possiblities.

i've gone 500 miles and more just to look at cars. AND return unhappy, disappointed, and empty-handed. not all sellers have identical powers of description, and even pictures can leave out details, that are deal-killers!

a hand-full-of-cash, a reasonable offer, and a willing buyer can work wonders,
AND ON A SPOUSE who wants to see the merchandise become cash!

    GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY HUNTING!

    thanx red

Not mine, but underneath the blue car covers are a 1965 Vette convertible and a 1950 Merc convertible. Both Not for Sale. Owner is a hoarder.

I think there's definitely a flip side to what you're seeing.....I see guys wanting at least 2x what things are worth, or at least 2x what they were "worth" before the recession hit. I can't justify financing others' money woes, especially at highway robbery prices....maybe Mecum and Barrett Jackson can help those fellahs out....but not me.

I used to think the stuff was either mostly gone, or only out in the sticks, but within a just a couple miles from my place (a burb of Seattle) there are 2 '35 Ford p/u's in a vacant lot, an early '60s Econoline p/u 5 window, a '47 ford P/u, a '41 Ford coupe, a row of '41 Ford 1-1/2 T. flatbeds, a project '40 sedan gone to seed, a '46 Ford 4door sedan, and the list gets longer with every Sunday afternoon drive. I just found a '30-'31 coupe down the street from my work. Most of this stuff is either for sale, or looks like it wouldn't take much to convince the owner to sell. When I'm road trippin' I'm looking in every back yard, farmers field, or old garage.( who isn't?) I'm sure it's nothing like it used to be, but the stuff is still out there. Hell, I've got a '39 Ford p/u, and a '40 ford Tudor deluxe sitting in my back yard I'd let go in a heartbeat, just gotta' get off my duff and advertise.

Everybody wants to buy the stuff for next to nothing and I ain"t giving nothing away,so just keep it. Drove 150 miles took pictures of 46 Chrysler 2-door sedan,4 early 1-ton trucks early 30s and couple of 64 Chevy trucks and a couple more sitting in the woods including a front end of a 41 ford convertable, listed the whole damn package for a mere $2500 got 2-responces and they claimed they were to far away, makes you wonder everytime you see these bullshit threads about lets save em from the scrap man.

Theirs an auto recycler out here on the north side of town that had been hoarding ~50 cars from 30-to late 50's and none wanted to buy the stuff at "the price I want for em" so he crushed em and likely only made 1/5 of what he was being offered. I don't get people.

Wouldn't even let me pick through em for the good parts]

Few years back a yard that had been sitting for years behind the roadhouse casino got emptied and crushed. had hundreds of 20's to mid 70's and the owner died so the daughter had it cleared to make money off the land. I had been trying for years to get ahold of the property owner. never got in touch with him.

there is a GIANT lot of 30-50's cars out between laughlin and the hoover dam but from what I've heard he typically wont get rid of anything (not even parts). And when he is in the mood to do so, He wants 5-7 grand for a truck cab that is falling to pieces. Granted the info on the owner is third hand info though.

SO if I offered you 1500 bucks for that 50 Merc you had and said thats all its worth, then that is the cars value?
If someone has a 'collection' of parts or stuff and you approach them, it is their right to set the price.
If someone has something for sale and it doesn't sell after a while, they either have it overpriced or not marketed right.
There is plenty of stuff still out there, plenty of new stuff being made too such as steel bodies, frames etc...
Most of the people who complain that there is nothing out there really mean, that no one wants to give them cool stuff for nearly nothing.

  27. My buddy has a 49 Merc, '40 Ford coupe, several 35-36 coupes, several 33-34 trucks, a '57 Chevy tudor, and hasn't gotten a firm bite on anything. Either they want to buy it at the price from 20 years ago, they're too stupid to even understand the concept of asking prices and making offers, or they're just jealous whiners mad they didn't find it first, who don't have any money anyways. I've had more idiots try to compare their '35 Dodge to a '36 Ford like it's the same thing - forget about apples and oranges, that's comparing turd to caviar.

And don't even get me started on the '66 Ford crew-cab pickup I saved last year. 90% of the guys into those trucks are so cheap they wouldn't pay the scrap price for one you could drive home, if it was sitting on the forklifts in front of the crusher.

Frankly if I'm going to have to give the shit away, I'm going to crush it, the rarer it gets the higher the price is going to be on the next one. At $200 a ton I can already come out ahead on the crew-cab.

MuahahahaHaHaHAAAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!! What a brilliant plan! Buy a lot of low-demand cars on the cheap, store the better ones indefinitely, then continue to round them up at rock bottom prices, crush them, use the cash to buy more, rinse, repeat.....INSTANT RARE CAR!!!! Damn......why didn't I think of that. LOL!

I found a 1930 Model A Roadster on the weekend. Wifes friend at work has it on her driveway under a tarp. Her husband bought it from a widow who was getting rid of her late husbands car collection. It was running, driving and tagged when they got it six years ago. Its been sitting there ever since. I said give me first offer if you ever want to sell it.
