I was reading the other post regarding early Chevy ******s, and was trying to figure out whether or not the original "three-on-the-tree" manual ****** and closed driveline could be retained in a 49 Chevy with a small block V8 or "modern" 250 six hooked up to it?

Is there an adapter available, or some way to do this through factory bolt-ons???

...or is it even a good idea??

(Not going for a drag car here....just a cruiser for now!)

  2. Don't do it. If you look at the trans, really REALLY small. Remember, it is only rated at like 90 Hp from the factory, and low torque too.

    I got a Muncie [IMG]

But it's probably worth more than the car.

  3. Hey, if ya wanna use the column shift, check for those older chevy trucks around. This old dude I worked with on the farm had an 86 with a 3 on the tree. I imagine you could get some of that stuff to work.
