I know there a some 427 SOHC powered rods out there so lets see 'em. That engine is on my bucket list to own, or at least a valve cover.
I don't have pics but there used to be one running around Toronto years ago. 1934 3-window (steel car, full fendered) with a SOHC, Nash 5 speed, spooled 9" etc. Tubbed and painted HOT pink. The car sat for a couple of years (rumoured money and family health probs) then disappeared. Supposedly went to the states. Always wondered what happened to it. The owner told me the engine came from Holman and Moody. It made the pages of Popular Hot Rodding at one time. Wish I new the month/year of the mag it was in. Very unique sounding engine ... had the cam(s) lope but sounded very smooth also.
There was someone around here [center of CT that had a cammer in a 32 Coupe, haven't seen it in a few years..I have a blank for the name of the owner...Some one was making external belt drive bunch of years ago, that looked tough [FFF]..The pic of one that was on HRM cover in street trim looked neat..
Here's some pics I snagged from the listing for the Cammer-powered '42 Willys coupe that was on ebay a couple weeks of ago and posted to the HAMB thread about that. (Pics 1 through 7 of 12) www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5412263&postcount=47 and (Pics 7 through 12 of 12) www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5412267&postcount=48 Speaking of Cammers, my ultimate "someday when I win the lottery" and "money is no object" (Yeah, right, like that's ever gonna' happen! Ha! ) dream build would be a Bonneville-styled chopped and slammed, '53 Studebaker coupe, powered by an all aluminum, 'aftermarket replica' 427 Cammer! Imagine 'tootleing down to the grocery store' in that!!! Mart3406 ==============================
Good morning all. Jim Green's Speed Shop Monroe WA. [formerly Lynnwood WA] that guy is really into those motors, has several cammer hot rods and the Assassin front engine dragster. I have not been to his new place, but I hear its pretty cool. John
WOW!!!!!!!!!!..I would walk from NY to get it and push it all the way back home whether it had wheels and tires or not.
Yeas I seen that pick before. I would luv to see rest of that bird, talkinn about need aload of cash, two rare items.
------------------------------- Naw.....'Panhead', old Willys are virtually worthless. Actually, they're even less than worthless and people are paying big money nowadays, just to get rid of the damn things! Especially the ultra-undesirable '37 through '42 coupe models! Remember that old 1950's song, "The Thing"? It's a little known fact and long-held ''dirty little secret' within the industry, that that song was actually written about a guy trying to get rid of an old Willys just like yours!!! Better save yourself the shame and embarrassment of having your buddies find out that you actually bought one and send it to me (shipping and customs clearance pre-paid of course!) for safe and proper disposal. Being the remarkably kind, caring and just generally, super all-round incredibly nice guy that I am, I promise to be discreet too and not tell anyone, or even charge you for taking it off your hands!!!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWPx-fw0mI8 Mart3606 --------------------- PS. To keep this post 'on topic' and to help you out even further, if ya' throw in a fresh, blown and injected Cammer for me to stuff into that Willys, I'll even waive the shipping and customs fees entirely! ===========================
Here's some pics of Jim Green's Assassin SOHC dragster (widely agreed to be one of the most beautiful FEDs ever) and some engines in his shop. He had a 34 tudor (green, of course) with a tilt-up body powered by SOHC). dj
