quote from the Indiana State Goverment BMV Site:

    http://www.in.gov/bmv/3215.htm

"When you are purchasing a vehicle, you should confirm the location and possession of the vehicle's title. If you as the purchaser have made all required initial payments, the seller of the vehicle is required to deliver the title to you within 21 days of the date of the sale. If the seller cannot deliver the title at the time of sale, he or she is required to provide you with a 21-day affidavit stating that he or she will deliver the title for the vehicle to you within 21 days of the date of sale.
If you do not receive the title within 21 days, you should write to the seller and request delivery of the title. After receipt of your written request, the seller has an additional 10 days to provide you with the title. If you have not received the title and choose to return the vehicle to the seller, the vehicle must be in the same or similar condition as when it was purchased. Upon return of the vehicle, the seller is required to provide you with a refund of the purchase price plus tax, finance expenses, insurance expenses, and any other amount that you have paid to the seller."

Looks like your all set but maybe a call to the local bmv near him . Ask a few questions maybe just alert them to his practices.,. Did you happen to alert the seller to the bmv link ?

  3. The age of the title does not matter. It has not been registered for however long, so that is why the car is not "on the books", but a title is a title, it does not "expire" like a registration does. If it does indeed match up to the vehicle number and the third guy has it, get it! THEN pick up the Stude, wave the title in his face, and tell him YOU, not he, has the title to the car. After you've hooked up to the car and loaded it, of course.

  4. Only one time have i ever gotten a title when i didnt get one when i picked up the car. I have even given self addressed stamped envelopes. I have about 100 cars and trucks without titles. I too bought one on ebay where the seller said he had the title. he failed to mention it was all filled out and had a bank lien that wasnt sighned off. I contacted ebay and gave bad feedback nothing came of it. From now on before i buy a seller will have to email me pictures of the vin plate and both sides of the title or im not interested.OldWolf
