Okay, I need everyones help. I live on an almost 1/2 mile long road lined with homes on both sides, it is striaght and smooth with the exception of 2 thats two 3 inch tall by 6 inch wide speed bumps. About 5% of the drivers even slow down for them, let alone keep in mind the huge distance between them. At the end of the street it makes a hard right and heads into two huge housing additions. 700 plus houses and growing. Problem is, everyone likes to use our street to avoid having to make a left turn out of their addition onto the major street to get to shopping or work etc... Sooo its not bad enough that about 500 cars go down our street on the average day, but most of them are doing 45 to 65 MPH in a 25 MPH zone. I called the local Police and finally bugged them enough to come and p*** out tickets one day and I watched him give out 7 tickets in the 1/2 hour he stayed. a couple of which were around 50mph. He didn't have to stay parked for 30 seconds between speeders it was rediculous! The cops and the city don't give a rats *** about this problem and all my neighbors hate it as well. Short of kickin some *** or 9mm rounds mysteriously causing flats what can I do?? Some one is going to get run over, a kid killed or some other related disaster before they do anything . Any ideas would be great?

I'm talkin to city planner and police chief, They all just give lip service.

  4. DE SOTO has it right. If enough people ( i.e. voters) raise enough stink, something can get done. Start a pe***ion for more and larger speed bumps, take some video of the situation to show the city council too. Count the number of children living on the street and remind them of this.

Keep on squawking and don't take no for an answer. Good luck!!

Also, the power of the pen. Take this issue to the local newspaper, TV, Radio. Elected officials do not like to see their names come up in a negative way for doing nothing.

I'm not going to give up. The problem is, there is only 20 houses on the street and it is used by 500 that don't even see the houses as they speed by. I don't know if a pe***ion with 20 sigs will make them even look at the problem.

    Squeeky wheel gets the grease.
Call the guy every other day, and DEMAND to speak to him and find out why he didn't have a patrolman stationed there handing out tickets yesterday.

Then, when he DOES send a cop, call him and and thank him...tell him you really appreciate it, and find out if the guy is going to be there again later that week.

Call the road department too, and squeek at them about taller speed bumps, and a couple of "Childer At Play" signs.

  10. Can you put together a pe***ion and take it to your town and threaten to vote someone out of office if they don't block off one end of the street or the other, or something like that?

Can you get a higway crew to stick a couple of concrete barriers across the end of the road inside the development, with ***ociated reflective signage?

It's that or borrow a backhoe and dig a deep trench in the pavement at 2:00 AM some night that works like the speed bump from hell.

You'd think with that many people speeding, a cop would sit there every day, it would be a cash cow for the town collecting the fines.

Actually, I forgot - what people here do when they want a speed limit changed is call the local TV news "Your Stories" and get them to investigate the speeding and put it on TV. Usually then the politicians do something so they don't look bad.

Buy a retired cop car or something and park it on the street. Or get those removable speed bumps and install alot of them. I've seen quite a few dummy cars in remote towns around here that dont have police of their own.

I'd get some video. When I lived in Downey(calif.). Everynight was like a Drag Race. ALL NIGHT! When I moved,I told my wife,Culdasac or nothing! No speeders around here. I know that doesn't help. Not everyone can move.
Get video, license numbers. Sometimes when a car would speed down my street,I would spray their car with water hose. When they stopped,I told them to slow the **** down. I took all the license numbers down to the local Police, and they came to my house and sat on my porch and saw for themselves. Rolling a basketball in front of them, slowed then down too.

Dude, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. show them video and how many cars speed in an hour or week, whatever.

    OR

Spraypaint SLOW DOWN on the street. next to it, theres a bunch of red house paint splatted and smeard all over the ground and over top of that theres a white outline of a kid.

    OR

hide in the bushes at night for a speeder as you hold a stuffed dumby filled with water balloons which are filled with red koolaid. throw that lifesized kid doll right on the ****in windshield.

    OR

measure a street sign for acuraccy. cut one out of sheetmetal, go to the decal store with graphics that you have cut out onto reflective vinyl that say SPEED MONITORED BY RADAR or SPEED LIMIT ENFORCED WITH PHOTO

    OR

Buy the yellow plastic speed bumps that you see in a burger joint or 7-11 and pound them in every 100 yards or so. Make sure they stretch from curb to curb so they cant snake around them. They are AGGRESIVE as hell. Theyll slow down after hitting the first line of those. And from the sounds of it, your neighbors will more than help out.

    OR

do the other suggestions listed above.

    OR

    deal with it

    OR

    move.

Thats about all the options, the way I see it.

[IMG]You can order your own highway approved signs. But nobody reads signs. Get some of those construction signs, that sit in the middle of the road "Road Closed"

I have done a bunch of that stuff. I stand by the street and yell at them, Ihave asked the city if I could pay for bigger and more speed bumps I have called the cops and taken liscense #s and I AM IVIISIBLE! I am at the end of my rope.

  16. Keep on it.

Call your local ***emblyman's(or whatever you have there) office and file a formal complaint.

Then follow up with the same complaint with that person's name listed in your local editorial section of the paper.

That seems to work quicker than **** around here.
One guy complained about his gov't ***istance housing neighbors and listed the local rep's name in the editorial.
About 2 weeks later, that ***emblyman started a task force to do compliance inspections on these ***isted people.
Guess what? Over 90% inspected got their $$ revoked and kicked out of their almost free house for criminal activity.
They now do about 100 checks a month.

You need to embarr*** the right local politician.

Paint a bowling ball like a beach ball. Roll it it front of the speeder. Make sure to have an alibi for your wherabouts at that time. Since the statute of limi***ations has run out on that, now I can admit it, no brag about. Also in case the ball gets hit directly by the tire, make sure nobody is in the line of fire. Believe it when I tell ya, the guy who hits the bowling ball will NEVER forget it. It won't work with SUVs, but it'll put a Lexus in the shop for weeks. The only thing that'll reach the average SUV owner is violence. That'd be a judgement call.

  20. might be a cryin' shame if you "accidently" spilled a pile of concrete in the road while you were trying to get your backyard patio ready to pour.

If I thought the bowling ball thing would work Iwould by 500 of them. Problem is, they would all be back with rentals the next day.

The city would clean up the concrete the next day. I just don't get their problem with dealin with this. If I cause too much trouble I may never be able to get the permit to build my new shop either. Now there is justice!

I didn't read ALL the responses but will give you this TIP of advice.... CALL the police and keep CALLING the police!!!!! I took it upon myself to deal with speeders in my neighborhood (grabbed a guy by his neck and punched him) and it did nothing but caused M E problems!!!!! I live on an arterial by a college so there are " wannabe rice burner dragsters EVERYDAY HERE!!!!!!! The last guy I did that to, called the police and I was told I was a VIGILANTE!!!!!! I explained to the cop what was going on and he told me what I did is just as illegal as the speeder, EXCEPT the speeder had "bruises"!!!!!!! Just do what has to be done and CALL THE POLICE EVERY TIME!!!!!!!!!! The cop let me go 'cause he "understood" what was going on but just be carefull!!! Just MY opinion...Ken

You should make a video with all the Details about the city and street name and people who failed to act on your concern. Point out who's to Blame. Then Post it on YouTube and Email the Link to all the City and County Offices. Even if they have nothing to do with it. It will get a responce from the exposure and black eye it gives to the City.

Stick a child mannequin on a bike or in a wagon and roll it out in front of one of these ***holes. When the police show up tell them you were just testing the water before you let your child out to play, and it's a damn good thing you did cause this ****tard would have run over him.

I still like the video and the speed gun... that would be awesome to show at the next city council meeting!!!

  29. try your local tv station. just a thought. Set up some two-by fours painted orange and white across the intersection. Road construction signs help with this illusion. Easy to move by your neighbors, but the other dummies won't think of it. Worked on my block back home for over three years.

I love all the sign, bump, paint and baracade ideas, but the city would come right out to take them down and fine me or haul my *** off.
