The trucks MPH is around 106 to 108 each pass, The 60 ft. times are around 1.70 and up..Its twisting up to 6,400-6,500 rpm's through the trap.......just after the cam stops making its power.........I started out as a base line with 4.11 gears, then borrowed a 5.38 Pontiac pig off of HemiRambler , and was really making that 327 cry at the end........then bought and set up the 4.88 based on what all the info was telling me between the first two gears and after talking it over with HemiRambler, now it marches the whole length of the track...........The rear has coil overs and some 36 bones going forward to tie it all together and a simple track locator, everything has held up very well, especially for not being purpose built for the track, it leaves fairly well for the not so well built of an engine and does not break traction or do any kind of hopping..........for some reason it just goes......just lucky.........When I first started to race it..I knew I was hooked so soon after I put the Truck up in the air and surveyed what could be done different or added to help take the punishment, So I triangulated and stiffened up all of the suspension points one way or another to help and just repainted after the upgrade..........The Truck is a blast to drive at the track, I have made up to four passes one after another with no one in the lanes.........and for the street, well maybe every once in awhile I will get carried away.Littleman

I know what lives under the hood of that beast...and who built it (though I doubt it's much of a secret)--but you m.p.h. says you should dip well into the 12's, if not 11's.

Just sayin, some gooey ass slicks would either rule the day,

    or horribly break some stuff.

Doubt it. I think "humble" is more like it.

sounds like a shortend g.m. truck arm suspension. (in concept)
I would imagie it rides pretty nice and corners well, too.

my model a i had last summer was a driver.....32 chassis , triangulated 4 bar....9" with 2.76 gears....68 350 motor with a small cam of unknown specs....12" convertor....will little if anymore stall than stock....the motor did have roller rockers....a aluminum dual plane intake...and a 600 1850 holley carb....full length fenderwell headers with 12" collectors....running a pair of 235/75 radials the best i got out if was a 12.62.....leaving at 1000 rpms (had a miss above that) ....shift at 5000 and went thru at 5000 in 2nd gear.....at 110 mph...with 1.93 60'...later found 2 plugs were smashed ....which was the miss.....a little more gear and convertor.....and some good tires....and i know it would have gone 11.90's....but as it was you could drive it everyday .....cruise on the expressways at 80 ....would run 160 ish all day long.....i probably won't ever get another to behave like it......but i will try....lol

the picture was from the first time i ran it.....ended up going a 13.00 spinning...and on the brakes on the other end....killed 17 mph ....and still broke out ...the model a that i am running in the picture , i ended up with in a trade ....it ran 12.50's at 109 mph in 2nd gear...with a better motor and a small convertor....but tall tires.... brandon

It was my only car for over a year and was driven every day in all sorts of weather.

Actually all my cars but my Explorer daily driver and the unfinished fleetline run 12's or better.

Rumor has it this car has run low 12s/ high 11s at Great Lakes Dragway with those same tires. It runs a 392 Chrysler, 2x4 AFBs, 727 Torqueflite with stall kit, 9" rear (not sure on gearing)

Mind you this was on alcohol when Ed owned it. I haven't had it to the strip since I have owned it, next year I will see how dismal I can do. Probably 16s in a 10 second car.

When did 6-71 blowers start showing up on "hot rods"?

Anybody got one that is set up somewhat streetable?

    "Best time: 12.90 116mph."

    Ha.
I know if you had something sticky in the rear, you would put this to shame in a big way.

I was impressed with how well those slicks hooked & how the truck came out of the hole with no weight in the rear..

I don't have one and have just about zero interest in building a car specifically to get a good time at the strip...

    But that being said...

The most impressive tru 12 second car I've ever been around was one my friend built in his driveway in High School...

He had this bitchin Mach 1 that his dad and he ran but he got burnt out on waiting for his dad to decide it was his turn to drive etc so he bought a 67 Camaro for about 2K of his part time construction money and spent about another 1k getting it strip worthy. He ended up with just about the biggest sleeper I've ever seen...

He got sponsered by Hoosier at age 17 and was embarassing guys at LACR and then driving his car to school the next day.

I don't know all the specs but it was a SBC 350TH combo with a 12bolt and posi I think... It had a single 4bbl, no NOS or anything, and a mild sounding exhaust note. It really was nothing special untill it left the line.

It didn't hurt that he was a damn good driver either...

Maybe more of a muscle car than a hot rod but there is nothing more traditional.

  16. I hope to have a 6-71 on the hemi next year. Definitely going for streetable. Looking for around 5# boost. Just picked up the piece of aluminum to whittle the blower pulley.

Currently my best is a 13.42 with the Strombergs. Ran a 13.43 @101.68 a little over a week ago. I need slicks though as my 60 foot times are around 2.00. :-(

The blower defintely should get me into the 12's.

My old man has a 34 ford running a 350 sbc had everything in the book done to it, running sportman II heads, and running 3 rochester's and will run 12.9's with an open rear end and spinning the rear wheels all the way down. I bet if we could get the thing to hookup and not spin the rear tires it would be faster. He drives it to the track and drives it home.

Lose the Strombergs and you'll pick up a few tenths.

Since I believe that FlamedAbone's computer is still down, I am going to cover his back... , this year his heap he got into the 12's, drove it a few thousand miles to and from the HAMB drags.... If he gets his computer back together, he can post the details'

Ryan, Jeff, still thinks your ride will whoop his ass, said you turning some big number on the top end (just cant get it to hook).. what mph you turning..

GMC blowers were pretty common in the 50s, but it was probably the 60s by the time 6-71s were used on more than a couple street hot rods. Before that engines were small enough that a 4-71 would do the job.

The 6-71 blown 454 in my 55 is very streetable, running about 7 psi boost, I've put about 75k miles on the blower motor since I first built it in 1990

here's the blower page from the 1961 Cragar catalog...

I thought the saying went "add a few more strombergs and you'll pick up a few tenths"

  24. I would have to ride the brakes a bit but i think i could slow it down for 12s. 63 Dodge 426 Max Wedge with single 4bbl nascar Intake, My own secret hydraulic cam grind , pushbutton auto with 391s . Cant do 12s on street tires though. Gotta have slicks.
Also Greg Bolt a member of ONDR ran last race weekend at Sparta Drags London Ontario a 11.99 in his 67 Plymouth Belvedere Street daily driver with a "OLD RELIABLE" 440 single four barrel hydraulic cammed 440 on Pump gas . It is actually easy once you quit reading all the hot rod ads and start thinking for yourself. Running 12s or high 11s on a budget requires a perfectly matched combination and can be done with ease if you follow those rules. Compression ratio and cam match is really crtical and few actually get that deal, Carb must be sized right (2 X cubes = CFM) Rear gear and tire height must be picked to hit peak HP at or just before the finish line. Peak HP RPM is directly related to Intake duration@050"
IT DOES NOT REQUIRE doubleyoked hokey high ratio rockers with roller this and roler that and winky dinky cylindrheads with super dooper purple anodized carb parts. It can be easily done on mild parts with good planing. Its about the combo. Greg Bolts car by the way weighs over 3750.LBS

Don't have a 12 second car but my bike ran 12.4's off the showroom floor, and that's when she was stock... :) I don't think I ever had a legit 12 second car, though in younger times I liked to think I did....

  26. Had it in my 69' then it when into a lighter 64', just squeaking into hamb friendly territory.

It was faster in the 69' because and I never got that car running real good.. Went 11.20's at 127mph. Stupid TCI trans and converter to replace teh dynamic. Frank Lupo's stuff kicks ass!

  27. You are aaabsolutely right on about franks stuff. I use one as does Greg Bolt mentioned above.

My little coupe...Blown ( up ) small block
    Standard trans ( Richmond 5 speed )
    Radir cheaters

Get the tires hot & shift @ 6500 = Runs a best of 11.5 so far
An automatic trans. & wrinkle walls should take a second or so off but fuck that crap. I like to row through the gears & modern slicks ain't street tires.

Can you build a reliable 6-71 blown motor for the street? Of course.
Just don't get greedy w/ your Ign. timing.
    I did. So I ran a 12.1 on 7 cyls:D
I'll be back on the street soon:)
