I really don't care to hear about people bickering about shitty rat rods in magazines or whatever, but for once, I'm starting a magazine complaint thread.

Why the FUCK is there a blown early Olds on the cover Street Rodder, yet it is nowhere in the fucking magazine?!?! What a fucking waste of my money. I hardly ever buy (new) magazines because the cars usually suck. I finally buy a new magazine and the shit's not even IN the magazine!

Those were my thoughts exactly. I paged through it before I bought it and found out it wasn't in there, so I put it back on the rack. I never like paging through zines at the store, but Street Rodder got me with the same shit a couple years ago...cool shit on the cover..buy it..and it's not even fuckin in there. I look through it now before I shell out my bucks. Mind you, I'm not reading it at the store. I'm just checking to see if the shit they are giving the impression that they are covering happens to actually be what they are covering. I'll be the first to shell out some dough for a cool zine...money should go to those who put forth the effort...but advertising something you're not is pretty low...my $.02

I've seen them do that a few times and its gotten me to the point to where I wont even buy the magazine anymore. Another one they do is Post a big beautiful picture of the car on the cover then post a 1 page feature on it like it was an after thought or something. Isnt the cover car supposed to always have a big article on the car to go wtih it?

You got the receipts? It's a pain in the ass, but return the magazine to where you bought it! Explain to the people at the store that the cover car wasn't in the magazine, and you wouldn't have bought it if you'd known.
90-percent of the store clerks won't care, and will just give your money back anyway.
But then the magazine gets "unsold" and you can easily send a message. Or at least one less issue gets sold.
Lots of hassle for $5, but damn, that does suck.

I get the magazine, but I've been waiting for quite a while to see a major spread on a real street rod and not cars that have been built by a rod shop.

Playboy did the same thing w/ Jessica Alba. Maybe the engine will have her PR guy go after them? Not even a dyno pull? Thats slander.

  9. Most of those mags you should only buy when you get a deal at a big show, you know, like when I got R&C last it was three years for $30 and came with a T-shirt and one of those plastic vanity plates. So it amounted to like $20 tops for the three years worth - at $4 or so each, thats a lot of free magazines. Get one you don't like, line a bird cage with it -

Being constantly broke, I'll sit down and read a whole mag right in front of the rack. I only buy it if there's like a tech article or something I wanna reference later. I'd like to support a good mag and give them my $. But can't really afford to right now. So I don't feel that guilty.

Lesson being, I guess, page through it so you know what you're getting before you get it. Even if the clerk yells at you and says, "You gonna pay for that." and then later, "Get outta my store you punk."

I bought the mag because of the cover too. I was very disapointed. There was also a blown flatty that wasn't mentioned inside either if I'm not mistaken. I don't have it in front of me right now.

It worked though. They got me to buy it.

I bought a couple mags last month- and sadly the cars on the cover WERE in the magazine! ;)

  14. The people at Street Rodder should have their testicles nailed to a 2 foot long 4x4 and be forced to do jumping jacks for 10 minutes for everyone who bought the magazine and was disappointed when they got it home and found out the cover car didn't have an article inside....

What about the other guys that got a subscription and thought they were paying to get a magazine filled with plastic SBC powered '32 roadsters and they waddle down to the mailbox and right there, on the front cover is an engine from a defunct car company...WTF?

  15. I think I looked at that magazibe at B&K.....

Haven't you heard the old say,"never judge a book by it's cover". Always a good thing to remember......

i always look through before i buy. There are book stores up here (i dont know if they have "chapters" book stores in the states) that will let you read the whole damn thing and you dont even have to buy it. Street rodder is the worst for that, i wont even pick it up to leaf through anymore unless it has a good tech article on the front.

it's technically not a "Cover Car" - but the cover car ins't in the mag either...not that i care...looks like a plastic 3-winder Duece with a Blown SBC

The front cover consits of 3 blown motors...a Hemi, Olds, & a SBC in car....

There is a Tech Article on "Blower Basics" that uses the Hemi build as the "photo-a-long"

Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying that S.R. is ok cause of this ...i'm pissed about it too...but I have a subscription to see various event coverage for the most part & there is a nice featured '32 Sedan from CT in the issue as well.

  20. PLUS, the cover description says "highboy" coupe. Looks channeled from where I sit.

But the 40 coupe is sweet, 'til you get to the engine.:(

I felt the same way. I need more pics of the Olds. FYI. That is the motor Jimmy Shine built for his Dad's 34 chopped 5 window coupe.

    June 2006 Cover:
Ken Ferrell of Retrotek had his Deuce highboy coupe handy so we thought we would pull the blown small-block and replace it with either the blown Hemi belonging to SRM Tech Editor Ron Ceridono or Denny Fahlschlemner's blown Olds. Cry me a frigging river! You bought it on a news stand. It wasn't sent to you in the mail. You had an oportunity to look through it before you bought it. You are the one who is the consumer. You have the choice to choose what you buy. You bought it so shut the fuck up......Are you just posting to let us know you bought something you wish you haddened?... I've seen a lot of guys come on here with posts they are so proud of because their cars were in StreetRodder but very few who say anything good about the mag. It's a hotrod magazine period. They reach out to a wide audiance with diverse interests, not all yours. SO WHAT!

  27. Next time wait til a freind has it laying around and then complain he bought crap...or wait til the store has the new issues to put out and the stock person tears off the bar code and dumps it and you can go get the rest of it out the trash ...

Sorry I feel this way I buy new/old mags all the time
info is info even if it ain't currently your style .....

If you have any old mags, you will notice that the articles are much better written than the new stuff. The tech articles now do a slipshod job of presently the details and usually leave you hanging at the end. The other thing I have noticed is how they focus on projects or products that aren't in the main stream. In other words, it is getting harder and harder to find articles for the grassroots builder. They want to show you how to install some zillion dollar part on a one-of-a-kind zillion dollar chassis and usually waste a whole lot of paper doing it. I only buy mags from the used book stores, there prices are a fraction of the new cost.:(

I never flip through a mag at the newstand. Why should I have to? Whatever happened to truth, honesty and integrity? Where is yesteryear's lack of contracts moral? If you put something on the cover of a magazine, why would it not be in the magazine. The greater question is, why do you NOT expect it to be?

Also, please re-read my post or any other of my posts. When have I ever posted a thread bitching about any magazine prior to this post. I am not complaining about it's contents, but its lack of contents.

    Also, nevermind.

Not that this has anything to do with the topic, well...Sorta.

I swear that motor was built here in Niles Ohio by a guy named Ross, from Ross Automotive. He's a huge Olds guru.

I went into his shop last year and, I swear on my mom, that that's the mill I stared at for like 15 minutes.

When I saw the SR cover, that's the first thing I thought of. I may have to go over there and ask him if it's one of his.......
