Ever heard of the saying "turn around - don't drown " Any part of that road was washed out that you couldn't see, you risked your life and that car. Worth it ? You're damn lucky, that's all I'm going to say.
Its okay. I drove through it 3 times to make sure it was safe before filming it. Farm properties get wet, you learn what your rigs will handle....
Until they don't......... When you can predict water flowing over roads how deep they are or the road hasn't washed out underneath it, buy a Power Ball Lottery Ticket and send it to me.
At least you could pretty much see the road underneath. I’ve driven through deeper, much deeper, in the past . Stupid on my part? Probably so. But at that time I didn’t want to be locked into a place (job site) with no other entrance or exit…it was take a chance or sit there and hope either the water went down or someone reached you by boat before you starved. This was before cell phones, so no calling 911 for help, it was every man for himself. I’m a bit more careful nowadays, I don’t get out in flooded conditions unless it’s an emergency. If you know the area, you can read slow ponding water and usually be safe, but fast moving flows, no way to tell how much or how deep as they can cut their own channels.
Agree with @56Packard and @Sharps40 , cool vid. Crossing a ford is no big deal to the locals . It started ages ago.
Just p***ing by. Thought I'd mention, not during flood conditions. just screwing around, My father and his buddy used to run their Model A's up the creek for fun
Many of us have driven through places we shouldn't have. That doesn't make it wise. I've seen tanks pushed off the road by flowing water with signs posted saying don't drive if water is over the crossing. They went anyways and they failed. In the posted video, you see the car moving further and further to the left side of the road. Had the flowing water eroded the left edge, the car could have fallen off the edge and been stuck or worse. Yes, I enjoyed the video, but is it the lesson portrayed something you want someone younger and not as scrutinizing to follow? Not to mention what if something goes very wrong when they try?
To get to my in-laws property in middle Tennessee you have to drive over the “Underwater Bridge” which is a concrete pad that is usually under 8 to 10 inches of water sometimes more depending on the day you cross. It’s about 40’ wide at this point and usually has the best swimming hole next to it.
