Just when I thought I would never hear about Murphos Publishing (Ol Skool Rodz) I get a letter in the mail today that I almost threw away thinking it was another firm trying to buy my small ranch for pennies on the dollar. I decided to open it and it was a letter from the law firm representing Murphos Publishing KO LLC. I do not have knowlege of legal ease but from I could decipher, they were informing me that I have no legal recourse to ask for any of my money back left over from my 3 year subscription. Murphos has filed Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and no creditors can take action to collect debts from the debtor or debtors property. Creditors cannot demand repayment from debtors by mail, phone or otherwise. Credtors who violate the stay can be required to pay actual punitive damages and attorney fees. Well how do you like that. I was sorry to see them quit publishing the magazine but now, I don't care. I get more out of asking questions on how to do certain things on the HAMB. This is the second magazine that has done this to me in the last 5 years. The other one, the owner decided he didn't want to do it anymore. I get it, it costs more to publish magazines but at least give us a heads up that you are closing down. Nuff said.
Only thing that saved me from paying for a subscription is there was too many cars with tilt, airbags, and vintage air. Cars were becoming a wheel and paint session away from being street rodder magazine
You either have to sell a lot of advertising or charge a stiff price when publishing any print magazine now. I think that the last magazine of anykind that i bought off the news stand was the last Old Old Skool Rods. Those right at 10 buck price tags on a lot of magazisines put them out of my budget.
I, too got my bankruptcy letter. At least we got some notification about them going out of business. Yes, it cost a lot of money, plus time, and energy to publish a magazine. The magazines true income is from the advertisements, not the subscribers. We are just fortunate that some advertisers were willing to put up their money. I started getting Car Craft and Rod And Custom back in 1956, and many others since then. My collection of magazines meant a lot to me, but now most things seem to be on line. So, I do what I have to do. You don't have to like it, but there isn't much alternative. It is like getting old, you have more problems, and pains, but you deal with it. I am 83 years old, and I am thankful that I am here writing this. You have to adjust your thinking sometimes.
I had no idea but figured it was coming when their rates went up to like $60 a year or so. No way can enough shell that amount of cash out to keep them afloat. I'll miss the cars but I guess it had to be...
Yeah, I got my notice today... bummer for us & them. I still had a couple years paid for the subscription. I have at least 3 years left on my Hot Rod sub., anyone know if that will carry on to the "New Format"? Or are we just ska-rooed...
