Been sitting outside for 20 plues years. A friend rescued it the other day. From what he said, he will be taking it out "as is" for a while to some of the g***er events as well as the Hot Rod Drags. Car raced in the Cincinnati area. If anyone has any history let me know. Conflicting reports that it ran an early Hemi or possibly a small block Chev at one time. 2nd post will be at the shop.
Goes to its new home. Late model Pontiac engine and 70'S style wide "shoes". The 55 Chevy was also on the property. Note the rear wheel well enlargements.
funny, There was a 58 over in my grandparents old neighborhood that was sitting in a backyard. It still had its hard top, fuelie emblems on it as well as a high redline factory tach. It was a old drag car that was going to get "fixed up". Sat outside for at least 20 years, it was a damn shame to see, probably still there. Anyways, cool score.
I like it but then I have a weak spot for old g***ers and altereds. Some serious setback-looks to be more than 10% which might push it into the altered territory. Whatever wish I owned it. Keep us posted on the project-Jim
I clicked on this expecting to see an old impala or something but this is much cooler, keep us updated on it, very cool find!
I hope someone comes up with some pics of how it used to be when it raced. Some cars look good with "as found" patina but this one would look better with paint. These survivor race cars are the ****!
Nice! cant wait to see what you do with it! The year is 1985 and that is when I bought this 1959 ex B/Gas car. have had lots of fun with it.
I don't know about the early Hemi. but theres a real good chance about the small block chev some time in it's life. good score!
Wow, that is truly a great find. I can supply any information regarding this 58 but my uncle ran a similar 58 back in the late 60's early 70's. It was gold with a punched out 327 that put 700 hp to the rear wheels. He even kept the 2-bolt mains. It had an olds rear end and a Munice M-22 rock crusher. He has a ton of great stories about that thing. He still has it too, it sat in his yard for about 25 years until he recently pulled it out and tore it apart to rebuild it. Trust me, this ones getting done. Best of luck with your project.
I'm always amazed with all the "paying top dollar for corvettes-any condition" ads in all the newspapers/trader magazine that guy's keep finding vettes like this that have been sitting outside, or even inside for years and are still there, and bought cheap.
Very nice find.. I hate seeing these old rods just sitting and wasting away. I wont to start carring around a tarp and giving it to the people to cover them up..
Yeah, this car was neglected for a long time. So when a friend found out about it, we all went with him to look it over. It did look pretty cool just sitting there but it was also ashame because the garage and overhang were just 15 feet away. They struck up a deal quick and he bought it. This guy had all kinds of stuff (all 60's except for that 55 and a late 40's Plymouth). The orange hood in some of those shots was found sitting nearby in the weeds. More photos will be posted soon.
Very cool find ! What can you tell us about the front and rear end set up ? / primerkid Not to high jack this post.....but something like this..... John Hansens - New Jersey's 58 Delray of http://www.g***ermadness.com/ / primerkid
hey ....wait a minute.....whats uncle jim doing with a vette.....???? is he planning on starting his own traveling g***er show.....hahah the guy who's name is on the back of his anglia.........
That car used to sit at little bar on st rt 42 called phils lounge in sharonville just below 275 me and my dad tried to buy the car about ten years ago was in alot better shape then. It had all grille and stuff on it then. Glad to see someone get it and fix it up.
That is a bad *** Delray. On the Vette, the front end was a little bit odd. It was set up a bit high but had a weird bend on the axle. I will not be seeing the car until at least April, and I was not there on removal day so I did not get a great look. The day we went it was in that tight little spot and could not get a good look underneath. Only from above. But as I do recall it was a odd setup.
