So I finally scored something worth while, an old altered dragster recently unearthed after not seeing the light of day in 36 years. I have hardly any confirmed details yet but this was supposed to have originally been bulit from 1969 to 1970 by some guys that operated a local speed shop. They only ran it for a year or 2 and then stored it away.

Recently someone broke into the shed it was being stored in and stole the heads and magneto off the engine which was a chevy 302 out of a z28.

Lucky a couple days ago my uncle told me a friend of his had an "old altered" for sale and I stopped in today and spoke to the guy who had just bought it from the original owners and only really wanted it for the engine that came with it.

Thats really all the info I have so far and dont know if this is 100% accurate or not. Thankfully the guys that built and ran the car are still alive and working in the same building which was originally the old speed shop.

    Specs:

    Fiberglass roadster pickup body
    Chrome moly chassis (supposedly)
    56 olds rearend
    Muncie 4 speed
    Hurst shifter
    Eelco fuel tack
    Blowproof bell housing
    Magnesium 5 spokes
    Hydraulic moon gas pedal
    Hurst motor mounts
    Cal custom finned oil pan

Very cool, I would like to know if you plan on putting it together as a rolling display or something else. I think that is a great find.

I would like to see it with just the 302 in it but slamming gears with the 4 speed, that must have been a handful.

Great score! That looks like an awesome car. I would try and find some more history on it (pictures and results). I wonder what kind of rear wheels it had? I would hang on to that one. Way to go !!!

That looks like one hell of a find. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the beast.

    "better sent to California"
Definitely. We need more old cars here.

I agree. If funding is an issue... sell the 302 and build a 327 or some other high winder Chevy small block.

    (no one has to know!)

  16. Screw the 302, 327 or a 350. Put a big ass ol 430 or 462 MEL in it. Now that would be stud as hell.

    Too bitch'n! Nice score

It seems to be from an older time frame than 69-70 to me. More like an early 60's to mid 60's Chassis.

    Regardles, it is pretty cool!

very cool... looks like you got a little drool on your lens in that one picture.

what's up with the frame? think it's home built or a name brand?

Everything but the 302 crank can be had off 327's and 350's and a company is repoping cranks,

Be a shame to see someone butcher a original drag car with some other motor

I haven't talked to the original owners/builders yet so I still have only second hand info about the car. I was told the chassis was a name brand type from back then. Also the 302 that was in it was the second engine they ran but i'm not sure what was originally used. I'm told they ran 10's with the 302.

I'm not sure what direction I want to take it, I would like to have a mid sixties feel to it. I think it needs a stainless steel dash, multiple carbs, cheater slicks and maybe the headers painted white. Who knows, I dont want to change it to much though.

Here are a couple pics I took today with a junked 283 thrown together just for a mockup. Not a bad looking project for $1.500 bucks:D

That sucker looks like the old "Misfit" that was once out of Ohio I think. I know it's not the "Misfit" because a friend had it breifly and it got restored, but looks alot like it. Nice find.

I would be interested in giving you a very fair price for the front wheels. Those cars typically had 12 spokes anyway.

    Let me know

  27. Wow, I have a set of heads and a magneto that would fit that like thery belonged.......

Cool find, drop something new in there and have some FUN!
    Doc.

  28. Man thats a good buy. I have a 364 nail valve with weiand 2 four intake and valve covers and tri Y headers that would look at home in that car!:cool:OldWolf
