I've been scanning my Dad's photos from long gone to put onto a disc and preserve some hot rodding history and thought some of you guys would enjoy seeing some old shots. These few were taken at Riverside raceway in Victoria 1962. The first shot was a gas stop along the way from Sydney.

Al, the full fendered deuce was Chuck May's. He ran a few cars at Castlereagh after the 32. The most famous probably the Hot Wheels altered and Wynns Charger funny car.

  6. skippy,
thanks, as alway's i wonder where that old hotrod is now.

Skippy, gotta love the Aussie history. We don't see enough of it. It's good to show the other HAMBers of the World what was happening in Oz back in the day. Kool photo's.

I know both Darryl Harvey's roadster and Darryl Fingers coupe are still around. The others I'm not sure Steve, you know most of the Mexicans so you are probably right.

Too many old Aussie cars have lost their heritage due to "updating" an ugly car. :(

Thanks for the pics Skippy , luv em. As for that roadster, it was later owned by **** Bushell, Then a guy named Tevour Gregg, then a guy named Jim Broardly  then went to the U.S. in the eighties.
    Cheers Dago.

bazz still has his roadster, but I dont think it gets out too much, from memory last time I was there he said he had a bit of trouble driving it due to the channelling and the position of the steering wheel.

Hey Skippy who is your dad? The Black A model Tudor is Alan Waltons, he went on to race the ex USA Psycho '65 Mustang Fastback AA/GS, it had a blown 392 Chrysler in it when AL had it but it had a SOHC Ford in it when it ran in the US. Al also had a Torana F/C with a 392 Chrysler it was called Smokin. The photo of the 32 roadster with Miss Pat on the dash is Chuck May's, it looks like Neil Micholson (spelling?) under the hood and Ross Morris in the drivers seat. The A model Tudor is still going.

The S/V Ford rail is Greg Goddards the first rail built in Australia, built 1956. The black T with the VW front end and the S/V Ford motor later had a Y block Ford motor fitted to it and the owner Ralph Donohue moved to Queensland, he ran it at Surfers Dragway and it went real well. I guessed it was Ron as I had seen some of the photos before.

Parked behind Fingers 34 Coupe is a 41 Chev roadster that became Bernie Forner's.

Yeah still got a couple, will p*** on regards. We all might be over for Bonneville this year trying to sort things out. Catch ya.

  26. Hans Klemm's coupe was pretty much 'the fastest cr in the valley' was metallic blue with filled trunklid and Chevy tailamps.

Today it's a bright yellow stock bodied coupe with red steelies and wide whites. Totally unrecognisable as this car.

The '39 convertible with quad headlamps is well known to most Aussies as one of only two cars to have attended every Aussie street rod Nationals with it's original owner/builder. Today it's still piss yellow, but with stock '40 deluxe features and flames.

The A roadster HPJ 100 is indeed Baz Fletcher's 'Henrietta' one of if not the first Aussie rod to be fitted with a small block engine back in the early sixties. It survives pretty much as seen in these pics but with the smallblock. cragar wheels and polygl*** tyres that were fitted at the same time. I think it's as much the tyres that cause Baz not to drive her much these days. ;)

The Bob Plowman roadster pick up is currently owned by the same bloke who 'restored' the Hans Klemm coupe. However, thanks to pressure from all his friends he has not done what he originally planned and unchannelled it. The good news it is destined to remain pretty much as it is today, unless he chses to restore it to it's original condition. Currently it's a bolder yellow than it was back then, with steelies and whites, plus Olds Fiestas on the front wheels.

Ern Harwood's '32 Sports coupe 'Little Sport' (JEH 242) also remains pretty much as seen in the image here and I believe is still owned by Maurie Stevens who purchased it from Ern in the '70s.

The channeled '34 sedan appears to be the Cliff McIvor (sp?) car. John Hozmec's similar car is still around, but I'm not 100% sure as there were a couple of very similar cars on the road at that time. In one pic I see the tail of Bobby Eaton's 'Stampeder' wich was a pretty radical '34 sedan. Channeled severely at the cowl with the rear monted 'stock' height it ran '32 front fenders and an FJ Holden independent front suspension.

  27. The 34 5 window coupe on the right in the middle is currently being rebuilt. It was put back on the road in the late 80's eaarly 90's as it was. Same owner still has it although now its chopped a couple of inches and channelled only the depth of the ch***is. Still flatty powered. It might see the light of day this year.....

Great photo's guys, I'll try and find the few I swiped off my old man from his trips to Riverside.

Might also be due to the fact that Bazz is not the skinny agile kid that he was when be built the car haha.

  29. I only have movies. ;)

  30. Awe 'cmon Pete, you can still get in and drive yours. ;)

Although when I got my FJ back I good friend and I sitting in the back seat did discuss how it seemes the car had shrunk from all those years in storage. There was a time when we could get at least four blokes across that seat but that day it seemed very crowded with just two of us. :D
