Check this out. Apparently it was a company made item for display purposes. Here is the link to the story: http://retrorenovation.com/2012/08...ile-bus-this-is-original-not-a-today-upcycle/
The owner wrote into Pam, the owner of Retrorenovation.com and had this to say about his bar:
"Often a vintage bar is a dainty thing, suitable for a retro apartment. This is a large bar that lived in a very large mid century rec room in Central Pennsylvania. We brought it to Philadelphia where the Trailmobile bar was the central visual feature for a decade at Lost Highways Archive & Research Library, and then spent the last 10 years in storage. It was built specifically at the Trailmobile factory as a presentation piece, then given to a fellow who had been a big deal in the Department of Transportation as a thank you for something now lost to history. Anyway, this is a masculine item I thought you might wish to show on your site. Retro guys like to incorporate vintage transportation items into their surroundings, and my groovy wife and I have always worked with a comfortable combination of masculine and feminine retro in our home and work space."
here's what my wife got for me. It looks to be a 56 Chevy School bus. Someone back in the day started conveerting it to a camper. I am going to finnish it. Well that's the plan. Best of all I got it for free!
You can always do it like this: Or like this: Bus conversions are cool. Here is one done on a 70's bus thanks, Douglas Johnson "Skrach" www.VividlyVintage.com
Here is a pic of mine when I got it and here is a build thread I did, but not many seemed too interested in it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=725359&highlight=teardrop
Kinda like that one. Experts, is it worth 3 Grand (Canadian)? http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...-Vintage-VaKaShunEtte-1957-W0QQAdIdZ389303550
vividlyvintage - No not going to make it a monster truck. But the other two are pretty vool. It will be a little while before I get to do any work on it, but i will start a thread on here to show my progress once it gets started.
Are those the correct tailights? I would have thought it should have the old wedding cake style that my 1960 model has.
Nobody's rescued this thing yet. Apparently it's a Graham, had someone claim that was a Chrysler truck brand at the time? Who knows. Wouldn't be bad to drop it on a cutaway van chassis though. Probably the only one like it in the world. He asks a high price but often will sell for much lower.
Mission accomplished!!! The Aloha arrived safely on Friday at noon! It looks awesome! Like anything, I'll have to go through it and put my personal touch on it. But, what a great point to start! I haven't seen the Shipping show so I can't comment. But like most TV, it's all B.S. drama! I can honestly report first hand the uShip experience was very good. The shipper I chose was completely professional. He communicated very well, and delivered on time! His name is Freddie Lovvron of Lovvorn & Company Llc. located in Wetumpka Alabama. Look him up if you need something shipped. Here's a pic of it home with my 64 C-10 daily driver.
Thanks Gary. I'll post more pics right after this deluge of Isaac passes through. We're getting seriously pummeled here in West Palm Beach.
re upholstered my dinette seats in my 1959 Shasta Airflyte.. took out the terrible vinyl flooring and did my floor in a checker board pattern.. interior shot.. a before and after.. bought for $350.. someone had painted over original paint scheme.. and after my quick driveway re-do!
I seen this guy on the show called "barter kings" where people trade to get things they want. I was just surfing the news on Google and came across this Cool article on Chris Burkhardt also known as Mr. Canned Ham. He runs a vintage trailer restoration business called "The Canned Ham Man" out of Riverside California. http://www.pe.com/business/business-headlines/20120827-real-estate-retro-trailers-old-is-new.ece
Check out this swoopy trailer...Caption said made by the Kaunitz family. Known as the Kauneel Trailer. Seems the family took their boatbuilding skills and built trailers...steam-bent wood,etc... Bay City Michigan ... Wonder if any are still around!!! Got these pics from Shorpy.com...
You would think that as much as we all love old trailers someone would start building retros. Well, I guess they think they do, but I haven't seen anyone but a few teardrop builders get them right. They mfg a nice canned ham with a fifties look and then put Star Trek windows in them.
