Hey guys, I know this has been brought up before, but I can't find the thread. The 51 is running and driving now and in a couple of months I will need to have insurance to run it on the road.
    Who do you use?
Do they have a problem if the car has some rust? i.e. it is not done.
    Cost?

My regular insurance company American Family wants $173 per year. [IMG] And that doesn't cover crap, AND they want to send out an appraiser.

    Thanks,
    Mike aka TDC

Haggerty is awesome. I have the disadvantage of auto racing being a past career, so my insurance rates are insane on my daily driver. I believe I pay $350 a year on the '38 for $30,000 of coverage on my car alone... When I added my wife's '51 Chevy, that rate only went up $17 a year...

Hagarty for sure, I have had 2 claims, they were quick, helpful, and a pleasure to work with. I live in Flint, where the insurance rates are sky high, but I only pay $228 a year, whick covers my car for $13,500. -Joe

Sneed Robinson is another. I have three cars with them. Latest a 54 Ford, 100,000 liability, collision, etc for 241 and this is NJ which has the highest rates in the US. No limit on driving except can't be a daily driver. Had one claim (pretty minor) and they took care of it right away.

Two claims with Hagerty, both paid without hassles and one of those was a total loss of my 47 Chevy convert. Grundy's rates were within $10 of Hagertys for the exact same coverage.

I changed from Sneed, Robinson, and Gerber to Hagerty cuz I got better coverage for less money for my hot rod. I did keep them for my newer Corvette cuz they have a special "Show Machine" classification which covers newer vechiles like Corvettes, Mustangs, mini-trucks etc. I did get rear-ended in my Vette and Sneed Robinson paid without hassles, even paid for genuine GM parts instead of aftermarket parts when I made a stink about it. It was almost a $500 difference for the GM facia compared to the aftermarket one. They did want to make me happy. [IMG]

I do plan on calling Skip's agent Sandy in the spring and seeing if she can beat Hagerty's price/coverage.

The nice thing about Hagerty and Grundy is there is no deductable, you are allowed, and paid, to fix your own damage, and it's an agreed value policy, not like your everyday driver policy where you have depreciation involved.

Denise...Do give sandy a call....she and her husband are car people..... she used hagerty for a while....now I THINK it's continental...they are only brokers and they change providers every so often to ensure all of us a better deal...no deductible,AGREED value,300,000 liability, you CAN do your own work,NO MILEAGE limitation,etc,etc.... I've sent quite a few HAMBERS there and a LOT of my friends.....check her out and tell her Skip sent ya...

    Keep kroozin'.... jersey Skip

So this is the last question I need answered. Does Hagerty or Grundy or Skip's lady care? Do they make you get an appraisal? There are just a couple of small rust holes around the fenders that will be repaired as I drive it this summer/fall.

    Thanks for all your input!

At the time I first insured with Hagerty, no appraisal was needed unless you insured for more than ten grand.
They did ask for 3/4 pics front and rear.

I have been with all three at one time or another. Started with SGR and rates got to high. Went with Hagerty and rates got to high.I am now with Grundy and I think its around 285.00 for 40,000. I live in Maryland. The only one I had a claim with was Hagerty and it was no problem.

  16. Haggerty has worked well for me for the last three years. Good rates. Never had a claim so don't have any experience with that end of it.

On my 57 Chevy truck I used a rifle rack in that big back window with a scoped 30-06 and a Remington pump 12 guage hanging in plain sight. No one ever hit that truck or even gave it a door ding in 20 years. Best insurance I ever carried! [IMG]

All my cars have been daily drivers so I haven't bothered with specialty insurance. Just what it takes to be legal.

I think I am going to go with Haggerty. They were only a little more expensive than Grundy and there's comes with a program that is much like Triple A. That way I can drop the AAA ($80/yr)

    Thanks for all the input!

Hagerty just told me that there is no written mileage limit. They just want to know approximately how many miles a year that the car will be driven. And they needed to verify that I have a daily driver for the wife and I. There quote was the best because it includes 3 flatbed tows per year, to get that sucker home when there is a problem. So now I can drop AAA saving $80/year there.

Just an FYI, even though Hagerty doesn't have a written milage limit they do frown upon a hot rod that is driven lots of miles and will question you if your high annual milage is brought to their attention.

This happened to me last year. My insurance agent called me telling me that the powers that be at Hagerty just called her asking what's with your customer Denise Sheldon driving her 1947 Olds xx,xxx miles last year. My insurance agent then called me asking what the deal was. I told her it must have been a typo [IMG] I then asked her to explain what the milage limit was cuz I understood there was none. She said it was true that there is none but if your a annual high milage driver they might choose not to insure you just for that reason. My agent told me they like your annual mileage to be at or less then 5,000. So if they ask you, just put down 3-4,000 and you'll be fine.
