Can't forget "The Lively Set" - a flick about a hot rodder building a turbine car to set the Land Speed Record. Features some neat rods, vintage racers, and quick flashes of Mickey Thompson and other drivers during a race scene.
i have it on vhs it's called hot rod '79 (from main attractions) i can't believe no one has said hot rod girl.....it's on dvd lively set (vhs) dragstrip girl (vhs) hot rod gang (lots of singing) (vhs) ghost of dragstrip hollow just came out on dvd the choppers (dvd) www.hotrodmemories.com good guys (the electronic store) is going outta biz around here i think i'm going to get a dvd/vhs combo unit. you can record from a vhs to a dvd...........hmmmm. not going to sell em or anything but nothing sucks ass worse the watching one of your best movies getting eatin up or wear out.
i forgot, someone gave me a book called races, chases and crashes, it has A LOT of old/new car/bike movies and it tell a little about each movie.
There are two movies called "Hot Rod" One was made in 1950 and the one you are thinking of was made in 1979. Both are available on tape and DVD. I've seen vendors selling them at car shows and swap meets.
LA Confidential. Not really a car movie, but a top notch flick with lots of cool old cars and cool locations.
Well, crap! I stand corrected. I think he said something about when "we" built the F and F cars......... I bet he was meaning as a whole......"we" as in collectively..... Thanks for setting me straight!
I have a pretty good collection of hot rod movies...some of them are: Hot Rod (1979) Vanishing Point Vanishing Point (remake) Gone in 60 Seconds Gone in 60 Seconds (remake) The Blues Brothers Bullet Lemans Sometimes...they come back (ghey - buit a old school 55' in it) Two Lane Blackop Crazy Larry, Dirty Mary The Driver Catch me...if you can! (1988) Born to Run American Graphitti More American Graphitti Gator Return to Macon County Both Fast and Bicurious Black moon rising (listen to the sound effects for the shelby charger! lol) The Wraith The Car Riding Bean The Legend of Speed and I have a bunch more...lol
Here's one I don't think anyone has mentioned. Moonshine Highway - story set in 1957 Tennessee, about the struggle between the moonshiners and a crooked cop ,played well by Randy Quaid. IMDB link - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117079/ As for Hometown USA (set in the late 50s), check out the cragars on the roadster.
Don't forget these 70's flicks with outstanding car chase footage: Thunderbolt & Lightfoot ('49 Merc vs. '72 Riv) The Driver (Mercedes vs. parking garage; Chevy Pickup vs. Firebird) Charley Varrick (Chrysler Imperial vs. crop duster biplane) White Lightnin' (LTD vs. garbage scow) W.W. & The Dixie Dance Kings (Golden Anniversary Olds vs. Art Carney) .
Did anyone even mention "Fast Company"? great piece of junk, drag racing movie...hell they steal a funny car and drive it down main street ....and for all the ol'school lowrider fans.... "HeartBreaker"....ultimate 80's cheeztons o cars !!
Fast Company is bad ass. David Cronenberg (the Fly, Naked Lunch) directed it, but had distribution problems so no one has really seen it... My faves are Drag Strip Girl with Frank Gorshin (the Riddler), and The ghost of Drag Strip hollow with Tommy Ivo...
really, i haven't looked in awhile. i thought that they might be public domain now and someone would put them on dvd.
HAnds down THE best has to be "Pitstop" aka "The Winner" stars Sid Haig..(spider baby, House of thousand corpse, Capt Spaulding) Awsome opening Street drag race, some barris customs.. LOTS OF GREAT FIG 8 Racing.. acutal footage shot for the movie, not stock footage... also some great dune buggies, and sand rails.. all late 60's Cars, wrecks, girls more cars and more wrecks... YOU have to check this one out!!
Another good car flick is "The Last American Hero" with Jeff Bridges and Valerie Perrine. It's loosely based on the life of Junior Johnson. Plenty of good 'shine runnin' and racing action here... BTW, I keep a copy of "Thunder Road" within arm's reach of my DVD player at all times. Don't want to go into withdrawl, ya know... Jan
Damn that is a good one.Great sound track too. Anyone out there know if the sountrack is available or not? T.OUT
not sure but it blows me away that it was not mention in the first page.this is one of those movie's I can watch over and over.Moonshine highway has no computer crap. real burn outs and burn ups lol.if you have not seen it you have to go get it...the parts of Cobra with the chopped Merc was cool .to bad they screwed the builder of the Merc so bad it almost caused him to go bankrupt.there is also one with Jack Nicholas when he was real young can't think of the name of it now.have to go raid my vhs tapes to find out
Funny Car Summer and Heart Like a Wheel are two great drag racing movies. The person that said he bought Hot Rod to Hell off ebay, was that a copied piece? I thought it was only made for TV. I would like to get that one for my collection. Thanks- Dustin
Yes, I can't belive only one person mentioned "Hot Rod Girl". The bad guys channeled 32 roadster at the beginning is soooooo right. Dont't forget Frank Dorshim " the Riddler from Batman" in the 34 Cabriolet. Period correct cars, not just show car extras. Check it out!!!!!
not really a car movie but Jeapers Creapers had a cool 4 door 4 on the floor 1960 impala doing some high speed driving and some cool burn outs.don't know why I like 4 door 4 speeds but I do,its cool when you see the girl ripping the gears .
The dvd has some great info on the cars from that movie... For some reason I love the "Creeper" van.... They used like 4 different impalas for the movie..
Dont forget about ROADRACERS... some parts are kinda hokey, but its a good laughable movie.. I am pretty sure that Robert Rodriguez directed it.. (it was a made for tv showtime flick.. there were 3 other movies down at the same time but this one was the best) I can still be found on videocasette, I dont think it ever went to dvd...
