Old Car Respect

Thank you!! some states are passing cell phone while driving laws, only decent car law i've ever seen. it's been proven that all the yackers are as dangerous as drunk drivers.maby even more so. that an the illegal immigrants driving around now from south of the border. I can't tell you how many of them there are around here. I couldn't count the number of times one of them in their broken down overloaded vans, has swerved in front of me, or pulled right into my path. and of course no insurance no licience. other one is the freaking idiots doing a hundred in their GASOLINE TANKERS!! HOW MUCH OF AN IDIOT DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO DRIVE A BOMB ON WHEELS THAT FAST? I'm talking about doing a hundred on 4 lane roads here not the interstate. if one of those flipped and rolled it would probably take out 20 houses. I've been doing eighty on 133 here and they passed me like i was standing still.

 

I don't think it is a lack of respect for older cars as much as it is people being in way too big a hurry or not paying attention and evaluating the whole situation.

My daily is a rather rough looking 71 GMC 3/4 ton with a hood and fender that don't match the rest and both doors with dents and those "gocarts with wheels" still will zip out in front me. I try to give myself plenty of stopping or escape room on the highway but more often than not someone will change lanes and run along 10 ft in front of my bumper.
When I tow my sailboat behind the truck people especially girls in honda Civics tend to tailgate the boat on the trailer because they can see past the keel and under the hull of the boat and would be hitting a 1000 lb cement filled blade if I had to lock up the brakes.
My brotherinlaw drives a gasoline tanker truck/trailer rig in the Seattle area and his list of idiot spottings is pretty long.
I tend to keep track of what is going on ahead of me as far as I can see ahead. Cars at intersections, people changing lanes too often, slow moving vehicles in either lane.
I think on a local basis where ever you live or drive knowing the problem spots and being alert around them can be a big life saver. Golden Arches tend to cause stupid driving in their vicinity, the intersecton down the road a mile and a quarter is famous for farm workers not stopping and blowing the stop sign. Two other intersectons are famous in the area for deadly wrecks because people don't stop or wait for cars to pass.

yes,i drive one thats twenty one years old,with two years of hammer and dolly work and welding to get it perfect, these young idiots come zipping up revving up daddys civic with the automatic, like i want to wrap my car around a stupid tree because they think their stock rice rocket is badass or something. just for clarification, a ricer is usually an idiot driving a stock import with stickers and a park bench bolted to the trunk, also a really obnoxious oversize muffler, and a ten inch wide tach in an automatic. on the other hand I am the polar opposite of that, my car looks almost bone stock on the ouside, but i could take satisfaction in knowing i could make them pee their pants if I was into all the street racing*****. been driving for over 20 years never caused an accident, except when i got blamed for some idiot kids in a mini truck plowing into me. didn't matter if they came speeding up a blind hill at night with no headlights. people used to know how to drive, now they figure nothing will happen to them if they wreck. if i'm on the road,i don't answer my cell phone, I don't eat,and if i have to fiddle with something in the car, I will wait until i'm at a red light or a stop sign. I don't even like to talk to people much too busy concentrating on the******s around me. it's gotten so bad,i've taken to looking before going through green lights,because some****** will usually run it. I don't have any kind of air bags or side impact door beam stuff,or antilock brakes,none of that stuff,just my wits.

 

Too many people in general while driving lack courtesy and common sense. If they had some they wouldn't do the***** they do.

The problems I've had are a little different. It' a problem of not too little respect for old cars, but a bit too much. I have been nearly hit a half dozen times and also hit once by idiots looking at my car and not realizing that they are coming into my lane. Some are leaning out the window with a camera or a cell phone trying to get a picture. I speed up, they speed up. I slow down, they slow down. I mean***** ain't they ever seen a kustom or a rod before??? It's a damn shame you can't shoot the******s.

The one who hit me was even stupid enough to tell the cop what they were doing. I think he would have locked them up right there had it been his choice. Just a little ding on the rear quarter plus some bent stainless. Bet they were surprised when they found that their picture taking episode cost their insurance $3k in repairs to my car.
