One of your biggest challenges will be to find someone with a positive attitude that is willing to help at the D.M.V. Ask the local Hot Rod and Muscle car guys many times they can make a recomendation of the user friendly local D.M.V. offices, I know from personal experience that our local offices and the people in them differ dramatically!
Have you looked into a mechanic's lien? They can be sketchy, but a lot of guys do it with the vintage exotic cars from Europe. Sent from my SM-G973U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app

I had a guy try and sell me a title... I was curious about it, so I listened... he sent a picture, and he then said all I had to do was sign, even though I informed him of the legal issues, he said "Don't get caught" which right there should warn anyone to steer clear of these people... they don't care what you do with the title, nor do they care if you get in serious trouble. Just follow the DMV/BMV rules per your state, I mean in my state, they inspect it per the year of the serial number, so as long as the serial number is 1955, they only use what was required in 1955, they also run the serial number through a database to see if its stolen, and if all checks out, they let you take it to the DMV/BMV to get a title issued. There are a few more steps, but its far better than worrying about legal issues. Sent from my SM-N960U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The SEMASAN website has information as well, it appears to be quoted from the actual South Dakota law book. https://www.semasan.com/semaga/TagTitleToolbox_SD.pdf
