My only question is...did they sell at a bargain, or pretty close to what they're worth?

Yes, and with them packed in so tight what could you see to base the price on?

Really, only the cars in the garage were not accessible for complete viewing. I was able to see all of the cars in the ba*****t and the ones outside with only minor excavation. I truly don't know how the appraiser was able to make ***essments on the five in the garage. The Camaros could not have actually been seen by anyone and then reburied like that. The cars have long since been paid for as most where bought new so ALL of the cash goes to the wife. She seems to be an extremely nice woman faced with a large cleanup task but certainly has the kinds of things that will get that placed cleaned up for her! As for pricing, all parties are going home very happy I'd say. I only saw pricing on maybe ten of the cars. At least one was very overpriced in my eyes and the others I saw were quite the opposite. Like I said, I don't see how the appraiser would have had the opportunity to do the job correctly. Given the current economy I don't really know what some of those high end cars should actually bring right now. A one owner 65 corvette with 9k miles in perfect shape?

The husband was obviously a pretty interesting guy and it was hard to get too exciting digging through the last 50 years of his stuff with her standing there and knowing she just lost her husband of that long and that she has to deal with all of this now. Financially, I think she will be in really good shape now but at the same time, a lot of these cars surely have memories for her, like the way she remembered every single detail of the last date in this Ford in 1969. She will also be selling the home and property as it's too much to take care of. That is a lot to lose in addition to a spouse that you clearly loved. I wanted to drool and climb through all of the cars but at the same time, I just kind of wanted to give her a hug. She is not the kind of person you'd want to see get taken advantage of at any time, especially a time like this. I would hope that someone would try to help my wife the way guys seem to be trying to help her. I know we all have ulterior motives for the cars but I really do feel like everyone has had a genuine respect for her and this time in her life. If I end up with the car, I will tell you what I paid for it.

I'm REALLY anxious to see these five garage cars in the light of day and with a good cleaning. I don't think there will be any bad surprises...just a lot of drool.

That doesn't sound like a very good buddy...but maybe he saved it from someone else buying it.

One thing that always bugs me is when someone buys something because they suddenly think it's 'worth something' even though they don't have any interest in it at all. It keeps the people that really like it and would treasure it from getting it, only for someone to make a few lousy bucks.

What ****s even more is when you're the one selling a car to someone who tells you how they're going to keep it and give it what it deserves so you give them a deal, only to find it for sale a short while later to make a buck at your expense. ok...rant over

I'm on the fence about the buying and selling as I do a lot of it. My friend is still my friend. I'm disappointed because I want the car but at the same time, the car is a great deal and there is likely money to be made on it. He knew about it first. It's his find. He should not be punished financially on that opportunity just because the guy that wants it happens to be a friend. If you find a 32 Ford for $300 you are gonna buy it because it's a deal. Then you get it home and tell your buddy what you found and he says "Oh man, that's my favorite car! Sell it to me!". You know you have a $20k car and he knows you have a $300 car. You DON'T want to sell it to your friend for $300, even though you'd love him to have it. And even if you give him a great deal, it's still a bad deal because he knows what you paid for it and he's pissed at you. If you sell it to him for $300 and he sells if even five years later after truly enjoying it and thinking he'd keep it forever and then gets $20k for it, you are pissed at him. You can't win in these situations.

The fact is, I want the car to keep for as long as I can keep it. It's an amazing car. If he sold it to me cheap, and I sold it someday, I'd think the right thing to do would be to split any profit with him. Or if he wants to make a mutually fair amount of money (and I mean thousands) on it now, I'd pay him for the find. If he wants to try to make insane money on it by trying to peddle it elsewhere, he can do that too. I'd be sad to see it go away though. There aren't many original hot rods in this condition and I'd sure like my chance at this one. I hope we can find some middle ground on it.

Way too many mind games going on over this car, set a price, buy it if you can, and enjoy it. I learned long ago the hard way NEVER go into a partnership on old cars or any collectables.

No mind games. The lady told me a price, I said Okay. Apparently he gets first dibs though. I have a price I'll pay for the car. He'll accept it or not. End of story.

The point of this was just to show off the old cars.

  9. Somebody tell me how I find out about this stuff....in time to get in on buying some of it. I certainly have the part about hearing about it after the fact down. Some very lucky SOB's.

just stumbled onto this post. What a great find! I enjoy the hunt, even if I don't get to buy anything. Any updates or other pics? Did you get the car?

  13. Not sure how much of a car guy OP is when a '36 is identified as a '35. Huge frontal difference in looks. JM2CW

Somebody in the area ring up Unclescooby and get an update. I thought he had already gotten the car. Wasn't there a thread about him getting it running? If someone knows, give it up.:)

Either way you look at it, its good to see that the cars are going to see the light of day again.

  16. If I line up a dozen 35-36 Fords in a row and stack stuff all around the fronts so you can't see the grille and nose, you're telling me anyone who can't tell one from the other isn't a car guy? Let alone being in a stranger's garage where you can't really start digging through their **** to look at the nose.

Unclescooby did get the car, there's a thread with pictures and asking if anyone remembers it from back in the day. Search for threads started by him -

I always wonder how people come up with so much stuff...and a way to pay for it.
