Old Chevrolet Radio

I picked this up a while back and I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with the thirties Chevrolet radios.... Have a looksee at the pictures. The speaker has a switch dial on it. Anyone know what year this thing is and if anyone out there restores these things??? Thanks for the input!

Has to be a super rare option/accessory. The resto guys would probably give their collective right nut for that thing.

 

Probably a standard radio for whatever year in the 30s. AACA guys might be able to better help on the exact year, or at Chevytalk.org -

 

In the book A pictorial history of chevrolet 1929-1939 on page 160 is a picture of a radio for a 1935 chevy master deluxe that looks like yours. The antenna was under the running boards

 

That looks very close to the radio for my '37 Master Deluxe. Not sure what that knob is but my radio was surprixingly easy to fix. Used common tubes. Find someone with a tube tester and change the bad ones. I bet it will work.

 

the electrolytic capacitors dry out, they can be replaced with new ones, don't plug it in unless you wanna see it glow for a short time then fade to dark and cost more to fix. Google antique radio club for your area, ask around to those members who is good at an electronic restoration. There are people who specialized in auto radios repair, if you can find someone close to you and is reasonable???? go for it!
GM trivia for you...... Chevy, Cadillac, LaSalle had logos on there radios, what did Pontiac, Buick, and Olds have on some of their accessories like radios?????

Thanks for the input fellas. I was thinking it was a mid thirties accessory radio. I'm definately not gonna plug the thing in or put juice through it without having it tested. I might see if I have room in my duece for the thing... I'm putting a Cadillac in it so the GM theme wouldn't be too far out. Thanks again fellas!!

Go to www.nostalgiaair.org they have the Rider's schematics for alot of car radios.
Look around and try to find the model # on the unit.
i've been fixing old radios since my teens, so if any questions, just ask.
