who here has an old daily driver? my only car that I can drive is my 62....have been driving it for 3 years and 30K. I am away for school with it and would drive it anywhere (trust it but wears you out after 300 miles or so with no PS or PB) so how many people here have a true daily driver over 30 years old? Nick
Up until november I drove a '67 skylark hardtop as my daily for 9 years. It was loud and cool, but it was a pain in the ass in the winter. The only reason it's not my daily anymore is because my wife got a new car and I took her '92 prelude. It's faster than the buick, quieter, gets better mileage and has AC. Oh yeah and I can actually get to my parents' house in the winter. Old daily drivers are fun for awhile, but there's something to be said for technology.
And now this has been sharing daily duties for the past month. So far in 3 weeks: 5 trips to the dump and two swap meets... Travis
since 1997 Ive been driving my 56 buick. even in the winter with no working heat/defroster. Well the buick did have a break for about a year, when I drove my 54 chevy everyday, also with no heat/defroster, and you had to keep the windo down cuz it smoked too bad... Im hardcore. -J.
gets me when people give me crap for driving an old car....hell my motor was stock (until I crosswired the gen and fried the reg) had hte head rebuilt for unleaded and has been fine since then. it was pulled out of a cow pasture and all it took to get running was a tune-up and one $12 wheel cylinder (siezed) still has FoMoCo drums on it and had a FoMoCo cap/rotor/wires on it (dated 12-68) has been flawless. I had troubles with the stock junk holley carb but put on a autolite this winter and it is tons better. drive it year round in 10" of snow and all. love it in the snow much more than the turbocoupe I had. I put 2000 miles on it in two weeks over xmas break between school and running for parts all over the state (was at both ends of it twice in one week) only time it has been down was the broken leaf (installed airbags) and a throwout bearing (2 days for a replacement) (sorry but I don't count sunny CA people as being hardcore, hardcore is driving in winter with a scraper in hand to deforst the windshield, no heat, a constant draft. I drov ehome from school a xmas wearing carharts and longjons for the 10 degree weather for the 5 hour drive with no heat) Nick
I drive a 67 mustang, but I haven't grown a mullet yet. Comfortable car, very easy to drive. It's been lowered, and my shocks are completely wasted, so I have to watch potholes and railroad track crossings carfully. Gets about 6mpg though, it needs tuned, but a 2000rpm stall and 4.11 gears aren't helping. I wouldn't own a newer car, too expensive to buy and too expensive to work on.
well, this was my daily... great fun, but spent a lot of time worried about things like it getting stolen (regularly end up in some bad neighborhoods). Gas prices were kickin my ass, too... but really, better than most new SUVs... and WAY better than a new car payment. For sale now... know im going to miss it dearly...
I TRY to drive my '55 every day. I don't really trust it, all the time, though. I generally use my 92 Eclipse as my back up car, when the '55 is down, the Eclipse is alot faster, but it doesn't have that magic that an old car has. It hasn't been down for any length of time since August of last year when the driveshaft/tranny/ rear end/ etc. took a shit on me. Ever since then, every time I feel a vibration, I get paranoid.
Tri-power should be standard equipment on daily drivers. LOL....How much IS gas now?????????....OLDBEET
When It is not Busted I have driven my 1964 tbird daily since spring 1997. I have logged on over 100k in that period and done all my own repairs and body/paint. I have a tri-power for the 390 too. The tri-power goes on after I get a new truck though. That's right, soon I will be looking for a newer truck for my daily. It's real hard to build a Harley and a Hot Rod without one. Will post a pic tommorrow
Have driven my '64 Cutlass daily for 2 years now, a '64 El Camino for about...2 or 3 years before that. After I build my modified, I'm gonna start on some sort of custom...probably a '49-'52 Pontiac, which I'll drive daily and give the Cutlass a long diserved rest.
1963 olds everyday.......but it will be alot better when the bags are installed....my frame is just less than 2 inches off the ground and i am getting tired of my kidneys hurting......i would post a pic ....but i am too stupid to able to.........
for the last 6 years been driven a 65 comet 2 door cdan 289 auto lowered with E/T 5 spokes. never had a driver newer than 67.

Currently daily driving a '56 Olds 88; well, at least until the engine compartment wiring harness bar--b-q'd itself. Dailied a '51 ford Tudor, a 64 Falcon wagon, a 67 bug and a 58 bug in high school.
Old Beet... Who cares how much gas is right now? Remember, it's only a 2bbl until you stomp on it! Travis
68 galaxie 500 convertable......and that from here in the land of RAIN!.......been driving it every day for like 6 years!........44 BUCKS TO FILL THE BASTARD UP YESTERDAY TOO! R E D M E A T
Here's the current one, I guess 34 years old counts. And here's the previous daily driver. I drove it as my only car for a couple years. The Chevelle is MUCH faster, LOL
Wish I had my camera here at work, I'd show you the Chevelle sitting here at work with snow all over it! !@#$%^&**( Winter just won't let go!
I drive my '59 Apache every day. As a matter of fact here it is in the parking lot out back right now.
