it's the miles not the years that make my 1975 Blazer old! 775,600 and I've put 545,000 myself in the last 14 years. I carry cardboard to throw under it (for all the fluid leaks) when I pull this old beater into some high end rod shops
Daily Driver for Last Six Years. 1961 EK Holden Never broken down...dropped a cylinder once, but that was just a dirty Plug..hehe Cheers MAIKI
Mine isn't that old, but is the most reliable car I've ever had. (Most reliable car Deyomatic had too!) Its a 1973 Belair with a 350 producing a whopping 140HP, when new. It now has 188k miles and the only "major" engine work its had is a new timing chain. The mpg? 10.
Until I bought my truck, I drove a 65 Corvair Conv. 16 miles each way to work, before that a 62 LeMans. Auto parts stores, even 8 years ago, had nothing in stock for replacement parts for either one. I had to have the brake shoes re-lined for the Pontiac through NAPA, took 10 days, tore up the brake drums, but had to run them that way, no replacements.
My daily driver 37 Chevy truck. Before this was a 60 F-100, and before that was a 64 Riviera. I drive the 37 everywhere: work, store, junkyard, road trips.
My daily driver tasks are split between my 40 coupe and my 41 pickup (both Fords). Coupe sat for a while with some procrastination on required repairs, now it is OK, and is the truck's turn to sit. When they both run, I try to alternate, maybe a couple days a week each, and one day in the roadster if the weather is nice.....
62 Ranchero...people say "This car suits you" what they really mean is... "Its old and slow and can't hardly keep up with the modern world"
Here's my daily driver. Of course i only drive it like 3 mile to were my vanpool picks me up. So it might not count as a real daily driver.
60 Buick 4dr HT. No pics cuz my cheap ass don't have no digi camera. Every day, especially now that it's fixed and running properly. Oh, and legal again. Stupid license plates........
I've been driving my '31 model A back and forth from A to B since I first got it put together in 2002. I've racked up just over 20,000 miles so far, and it hasen't left me stranded yet... (knock wood).
Here in Canada we use enuff salt in the winter to build our own Bonneville even tho it hardly snows!!! I bought this one 2 and a half years ago from the original ownwers with 60,000 on it, now has 99,666!as of last night!6,no brakes ,no steering(power that is!)
I don't drive it everyday, but I do trive it about 4 days a week and it is the vehicle I take out to Ontario and San Diego all the time. I have actually put about 12,000 miles on this thing in the past 7 months. It's more of a parts hauler than a daily driver - gotta use that long bed for something...
I am drivin my 70 ss chevelle. Had it for almost 20 years. It hasn't been my sole daily this whole time. No pics though.
I drive my Ranchero everywhere, everyday. The kids on my son's tee ball team dig the hell out of it...I don't really think of it as old by HAMB standards, but it's definitely old by most peoples standards...
Magnet and I are on a "mad thrash"(tm) to get my 59 Bel Air fixed and running to be my daily driver. Some people, including Magnet, think I'm insane for living in the city and having a car that big and that old...
This was mine up to three months ago when I got my '61 f100. Most of the time my commute was the best part of the day. David
http://avies.com/mike_photos/biscayne.html This '64 Biscayne is my only car. A true stripper. The Powerglide tranny was the only option. I bought it last November, and have put more than 10,000 miles on it since then. The only thing that has left me stranded... The module went out on the HEI dizzy that I swapped in. I guess you have to watch out for this new-fangled fancy ass electronic stuff.. After all, GM's only used it for what? 29 years or so? Maydaymike 1964 Chevy Biscayne 230-PG Power steering, Power Brakes? Ha, next thing you'll want a radio or something...
yeah and thats before it got lowered too ......i was gonna get a nose bleed ridin in that 4x4 .....haha......man that looks horrible.......too bad i didnt have a current pic with the flake and proper stance....and yeah i know i need lessons...one of computer savy friends was gonna help me but .... well ya know ......
old trucks in Texas are kinda common, dont think much about it, my 69 is old (in some peoples eyes), but with air, power steering, and disco brakes, not a bad driver, and just ugly enough to win most automotive showdowns people come into work and ask if we have parts for old cars, and the ask for something for an 80's whatever...makes me laugh, especially on the days i drive the 46...it's not what i call a daily driver yet....but it's getting there
Man, you guys make me feel like a wuss! My daily driver is a 1972 Ford F-100 Custom, manual steering and manual drum brakes, 400 2 bbl. I just got it back on the road after a winter redo with refinished bodywork and paint... My first paint job. Wish I had a decent camera. My little brother who is 17 has a 1965 Falcon 2 door sedan as a daily, 250 6 cyl and disk brakes, lowered, duals, etc. Unfortunately, around here the salt is too much and we both driver winter cars (I favor the Geo Metro). If I lived in a mild climate it would be all year round for sure.
