I was reading an earlier post about the man with the small engine repair business in the old car dealership building. Someone commented the new car dealers these days looking like a shopping mall. It got me thinking how all the new car dealerships have become just like all the new cars. They used to all be different, with style, and now they all just look the same. How about getting some dealership pictures and posting them here? Either from back in the day, or old buildings that are still around, before they all go the way of the dodo bird. There is a real cool old art deco building in a town about 30 miles away from here that used to be an Oldsmobile dealer. Soon as I can, I'll get pictures on here. Anyone else have any?

Yeah that's what I'm talking about. Did you notice the miniature Plymount? And what's up with the corral at the Edsel dealer?

First pic is 1923 Ford dealership that used to be in town here.

Second pic started as a garage had a Desoto dealership 46-48 and is now a parts store that I work at. Been around since 1936 same family still ownes it. They still have a left over Desoto that the owner kept and drove after they dropped the dealership.

  8. I'd love to find some photos of Drake Motor Co., Ford dealer here in Rockmart GA from Model T days until 1956. The building is still there but no longer houses a Ford dealership. I have my '38 Ford pickup lettered as a shop truck for Drake Motor Co. Phone 13, that really was their number back in the day.

I finally got pictures of the old Olds dealer building. Looks like it's a used furniture store now. If I remember correctly it was still in business as a dealership as late as 1979 or so.

Great pics. I don't have any to contribute, but keep em coming! I am only 29, so the coolest thing I remember seeing dealership-wise was a row of brand spanking new Monte Caro SS's at a Chevy dealer around 87 or so...

You bringing up the 87 Monte Carlo SS reminded me of something. I was working at a Chevy dealer in 87. I remember a us getting a truckload of new SS Monte Carlos. 3 Aerocoupes and 3 regular cars. A year later I ended up buying the last one left on the lot, a white aerocoupe. Wish I had taken a picture that day it came in on the truck but never thought of it.

I don't want to get slammed by the Studi fans but somehow a Studebaker cop car in the rear view would of sure made one think of running! I mean, how fast could it be.;)

Does anyone have early photos of George Sutton Ford Dealership in Inglewood, Ca. ?

Apparently, it was the first Ford Dealership in So Cal to sell Model A's.

My 31 Ford 5W was purchased there originally, and i have the license plate holders from the dealership there.

Not sure where this Dealership was or even IF it was taken at a Dealership - maybe a show? Both Lincolns & Fords on display, sometime around Christmas, judging by the wreath on one of the doors and I believe either in '28 or '29. It looks to be an original photo and is marked "A.F. Crooks, Commercial Photography, Flint, Michigan" on the back.

Not a car Dealership, but here's a auto shop that my Grandmother's brother ran back in the late-teens and early-20's......

That's funny. Wonder if the guy that came up with the idea kept his job?
