old drag race lettering

    was wondering if any of you had any pics of some lettering or old t-shirt art for that matter from the 60's....trying to get a logo idea going i had in mind....seems alotta guys wore manufactures t's back in the day,and i always thought that was kinda cool lookin[kinda like the old hedman hedders or enderle t's}any one still got one squirreled away?
     
  2. What a trip..I was just searching the net for this same exact thing!!! I'm looking for lettering as well.... How far back are you looking for? I'm going early 1960's I had or still have somewhere an old T shirt from the 60's sponsor was Air Lift suspension and Vic Hubbard Speed and Marine Speed shop Hayward ,CA pretty cool shit!!

    Check out the book "Gasser Wars". Lot's of color photos of graphics and lettering. Also check out the site 1001freefonts.
    Lot's of cool retro lettering.

    Also check out the book "Super Stock, Drag Racing the Family Sedan" by the same guy that wrote "Gasser Wars". Both of those books are filled with pictures of drag cars from the '50s and mainly '60s, plus, they're both just fucking great books.
     
  5. The font used for the 7 on Seagrams 7 was a popular style for dirt bike and race car numbers.

    My all time favorite drag racing coupe was a naturally aspirated bright yellow full fendered 34 three window with moderately chopped top that ran a Chrysler Hemi, sucked down nitro and turned 125 mph in the mid-50's.
    Good performance at the time.
    It had a big number 25 painted on the doors - dark red in color I think - and the Seagrams 7 type font used for the number made for an outstanding combination.

    I liked the font so well that I had a sign painter do some number '47's' on my dirt bike.
    I'd use it again if I had a car to number. [​IMG]

    marcus,i'm looking in the early 60's as well,i'm trying to get my 27 to look like it left the track in 62 or so.i wanna do a logo on the door that says,"mophy's speed shop"seems they always had something or another speed shop an alot of cars back then,always liked that.....i just threw the t-shirt thing in because all the old pic's i see the dudes are sportin t's with a company logo on them,always thought that was kool as well.mainley just lookin for ideas,hoping someone might have some old t's or car art they could post pics of...what are you lookin to do?

    Kenny Youngblood did the best top fuel and funnycar lettering. he's a master.
