Turned 55 a few weeks ago, my favorite car was the 68 big block Corvette coupe I bought in 1972 for 2,500. I was 19, sold it to get money for college three years later, was a good trade, but I do miss that car. Started riding motorcycles at about 9 and been into them and fast cars ever since.

    58.

It doesn't bother me getting older, but I do wish I had the memory, sight, and strength I did 20 years ago. I still kick start my Panhead, so I guess I'm still ok. (G)

The cars I wish I had from the past would be my dad's 56 Big Window Ford pickup (I've got a project, but it's not quite the same) and the 56 Ford Country Squire my mother had for a while.

I'll be 59 in a couple of weeks. Been involved with cars since I could push one across the floor. My favorite car was my 389 poncho powered 55 chevy which my dad helped me build in my middle teen years. I still ride motocross so you know I'm not to smart.

57, My dad use to race hard tops so I was always around cars. My first car was a 59' ford rag top that I traded for my Honda 50 when the weather got bad. My favorite, fun wise, was a Austin Healey with all Ford running gear, that I use to autocross with. Man was that a lot of fun street racing in.

Damn there are a lot of old farts here. More than I thought. No I don't fit in my high school pants and I'm dreading putting the temp gauge back in my pickup. Under the dash upside down just isn't quite the same as it once was but godammit I'll get 'er in there. If you don't hear from me call my son to come pull me out.:D

I'll be 62 in July and been messing with cars from about 14 when I picked up a 50 merc with no engine. My first total learning experience on cars was my 55 ford 2 door sedan 272 V8 with 3 speed column shift. Me and the junk yard got to know each other real well with the rear ends and trannys I tore up. I've had many cars since then muscle cars, hot rods, you name it. My all time favorite though is my 40 Ford which I have today. Right now I'm building a 64 Dodge SS/A .

Old fart....Meh...it's all in your head. Age is a number. I have been accused of acting like a 16 year old at times, an 80 year old others.

Fuck it. You don't get old by bein' stupid

  16. Some free advice from a 61 year old. "Old fart is not an age, it's an ATTITUDE." Make love to older women, they don't tell, they don't swell, and they're grateful as HELL.

  19. I'll be 56 in May. Got an early start due to my dad/uncles being serious gearheads:). Back in the dark ages when I was a kid, I drew hot rods on paper, colored them, cut them out and played with them. This started when I was 5 or so. When I got my first bicycle, I talked the neighbor into letting us make an oval track in his empty lot so we could have "stock car races". Talk about a bunch of banged-up kids! The guys kids were older than I, so they built a plywood and 2x4 contraption that looked like a "modified" from the circle track, and shoved me down a hill in it. Neither of us made the bottom.;) I had my first mini-bike at 12, my first cars (2 '56 Fords that I combined) at 14, went through 4 '56 Fords, a '55, a '54, a '56 merc, and a '57 Plymouth in the first 3 years I had a license. All were modified, some mildly, some pretty heavily. Joined the Navy, got into bikes and started custom painting in '72. Built/rode choppers/customs for over thirty years. Built a couple V6 trikes, had a blast, then woke up one day with no urge to ride. Sold my last scooter, built my '56 Plymouth. it's my favorite, because I can drive Hell out of it and not worry about scratches and such. But I figure my next project will go back to being "pretty". It's been a wild ride, for sure!:D Sorry for the long post, but I needed to keep going while I could still remember what I was talking about!

Although I posted my response to this thread yesterday, I thought I'd add one more item.
I got to thinking about all us old guys, how we ended up this age and still playing with cars, and most importantly, some advise to all who have read these posts.
I can't stress this enough for all HAMBers of all ages:

    Get a yearly physical.

Get blood tests often. Have your Dr. check for blood/sugar, PSAs, etc., etc.

If you smoke, quit. Thats a lot of saved money to put into your car.

    Exercise, daily, no excuses.

    Watch your weight.

Whatever you eat and drink, do in moderation.

For guys over 50: Get a colonoscopy (its not a big deal)
    Have your prostrate checked

Not feeling good drains all your enthusiasm for almost everything, cars included.

Well, this geezer went to the gym this morning for two hours and now it's off to the GNRS...
The Show opens in 1 hour!!!!!!!!

  22. Well, I'll tell ya... I didn't want to post to this thread. I'll be 62 in a few weeks. But that ain't OLD! Just wait a few years... I'll be grown up then...

    I also love this line!!!
I'll soon be 59 and burning rubber still brings a big grin to my face. Play'in with hot rods is still a kick. Crawling around on the garage floor ain't as easy as it was, but what else would I do. Sure as hell not ready to "buy" somebody else's rod.
When the youngster's at work give me shit about be'n old, I tell'em they might get to my age if they're LUCKY.........

Had an older fellow tell me once that the way you can tell if your getting old is when you start having wet farts and dry dreams.

Damned if he didn't know what he was talkin about![/quote]
A couple of my thoughts about the ageing process...You know that you are getting old when the mother looks as good to you as the daughter does. Second, you are getting older when you get up in the morning, and everything is stiff, except the one part you want stiff, and it leaks.

well, today is my 55th birthday, woo hoo, feel like 25, look like 45 (I wish) been playing with cars too long. I finished a Hamb friendly truck last year and thought maybe it made me look immature...then i drove it...screw what anyone else thinks; I was immature when i drove it!!!! It was great. remeber you have to grow old, growing up is optional!!!! Besides i have a brother who is 58 and he's driving a DP90 painted '34 pickup.

I'm only 34, but this seems like a good place to say thanks to all the pioneers of rods and custom cars. I have a huge amount of respect for the older guys (some in better mental and physical shape than myself) who build cars now and when alot of the hi-tech crap we have now wasn't available. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation. Matt.
