I had Larry Fullertons Galpin Ford Maverick , PWood found it and Mike Mcintosh did the deal for me. I needed money to buy a blown cammer and sold the chassis to Dyno Don and the body went to Scott Cornwell

This is my Uncle Greg's flopper from the late '70s early '80s. He raced Top Fuel for a while before moving to Funny Cars.

  5. Even though I bleed Ford Blue, this is one of my favorite body styles (with the RS nose) and this is one of the best. Just gorgeous.

I wish i had a scanner, some cool funny cars from this thread made it to Europe and Sweden back then, and we had a few nice home built as well. Best thread so far imho.

  9. How about the paint from back then? No one in "the big show" today has, or can do, anything close to this stuff.

Bob Steele from, I think, 1971.

I see a rare shot of Don Hampton's evil twin Corvette that ended it days as a burnt wreck at Surfers Paradise when he crashed almost taking out Bob Dunn in the process. The Larry Fullerton "Trojan Horse" was for sale here a few months ago,Gene Snow's "Snowman" still runs at nostalgia meets with a blown Sainty engine.Graeme Cowin had a Corvette almost the same as the English Leather funny that burnt to the ground at Castlereagh about 1984.A lot of U.S. f/c drivers toured Australia in the '70's and '80's often selling their cars before returning home.Somewhere I have a book on f/c paint work, defining the style of the day, will try and find it.Great thread will those days ever return.Keep on roddin'

  19. Somebody mention Harrell? I got a million of him, too. I used to ride my bike up to his Hickman Mills Rd shop and stare at all the activity going on inside.

Here's one of his (two) '70 funny cars. I have a picture around here somewhere of both Camaros and an AHRA Super Stock (the same as NHRA's Pro Stock) in front of the HM shop (which, ironically, used to be a Ford dealership before Dickie took it over), but I'll be jiggered if I can find it now.

  20. Eldon Huffman has a bad day in the office. Seems a rear end support decides to go AWOL, letting the axle twist and catch the body. Looked bad, but just needed a new bracket and some "minor body repair".

From an unknown issue of Hot Rod.

Now THAT'S a great name for a drag strip!

  23. Harrell's '71 car; unfortunately this is the one in which he was killed.

  24. More Dick Harrell '71. Early-season testing at KCIR. I don't know who took these, but I originally got them from Valerie Harrell when we pulled Dick's '69 car out of the Vander Woude's shed and I started the restoration in my garage. Ironically in the second shot, I'm the blurry dork in the white t-shirt in the upper right.

During my short-lived foray into nostalgia funny car ownership, I was going to clone this car. Damn economy.....

  26. You are correct. The body was used for a Ford comercial when the car was on a mountain top. They put it there with a helicopter. The body is all fiberglass. The same guy also ran the "Snoopy" Jaguar XKE funny car.

It is amazing to me that after all of the fuel racing "Flash" Gordon Mineo did, that he died in a pleasure boat.
