The remains of a Whiting Bros. Station

 

From a small town near me, been closed as a gas station since the seventy's and now a tire shop. There were once four gas stations in this town and only one is still pumping gas now. JW

 

One of the First Phillips 66 Stations is located in Mclean Texas built in 1929.

 

Who has seen this vintage Texaco Station on Old Route 66 in Tucumcari New Mexico? The Trade Station Gift Shop is located in a vintage gas station that was restored to look like a Route 66 era Texaco Station. The building has old gas pumps and several great paintings that include a '59 Pink Cadillac and an Indian Motorcycle.

The Cucamonga Service Station is an award winning, nationally recognized Route 66 landmark. Built in 1915 it has been restored to its original look as a Richfield station of the 1930s and is now open to the public as a museum

Many of the initial scenes of the 1969 movie Easy Rider that depict the cross-country journey of two drifters on motorcycles were filmed along Route 66, like the Sacred Mountain gas station just north of Flagstaff, Arizona on 89. Although the gas station has since closed, the building that housed it still stands.

The recent acquisition of the Whiting Station in Holbrook has led to a series of renovations by the new owners. Although the scope of their plans has not been disclosed, it is certainly encouraging to witness the revitalization of this establishment.

 

The Roadrunner's Retreat was a Standard Oil station and restaurant along old Route 66, about 10 miles east of Roy's in Amboy, and just west of Chambless, California.
