The EZ Rest Inn film location, also known as Club Ed, is a movie set built in 1991 for the Dennis Hopper film "Eye of the Storm." It's located near Lake Los Angeles in the high desert area. The set includes the recognizable 'Easy Rest Inn' sign and a small gas station, and it's situated on 150th Street about a mile south of Avenue K. This site has been used in other films like ‘The Devil's Rejects’ and ‘Nothing to Lose’, as well as for many music videos. After the movie "The Eye of the Storm", the set was retained and named Club Ed in honor of the first caretaker, Ed, a local radio station disc jockey. The location has become notable as one of the most filmed roads in the US. Please note that this is private property, so prior permission is required for entry.

Sad to see the evolution after looking at all these beautiful vintage gas stations. Electric charging stations have no charm and no soul, you can see the Shell Gasoline sign in the background at Harris Ranch on I-5 and Hiway 198 in Central California.

Looking back at this thread, it just now jogged my memory that as a small child one of my favourite toys was an all-metal gas station. Still very fuzzy on the details. Damn! It’s now going to bug me…

Haha! Probably this was close. I now recall a sloped roof/ red brick type affair with a white thing on top that would always come off. The interweebs is amazing…

I was also thinking back during the time I used to commute between Toronto and Ottawa every week between 1999 and 2001. I typically took Hwy 7 which is part of the Trans-Canadian highway network. During that stretch, there were a few gas stations which were operational but are now abandoned, and doing a search for them brought me to a few interesting sites.

This site (link below) is from Elgin County Ontario, Canada which is south of where I grew up. The link has pics of local gas stations from the municipality. Actually pretty cool pics with descriptions.

    Here are a couple.

Going back to the abandoned stations along Hwy 7, I came across pics of one of the abandoned stations. This particular stretch was through a region known as the 1,000 Lakes Region, and during the 40s - 70s was a popular tourist destination, but it subsequently fell on tough times, and even during the couple years I travelled it weekly, I could see a decline.

Speaking on the decline of the area, I came across this link from TV Ontario (TVO). They mention it as Canada’s version of Route 66. Interesting. This is actually very fascinating for me, and I wouldn’t have really thought any more of it if it wasn’t for this thread, so thank you to the OP. I would really encourage you all who see this to watch the documentary.

For whatever reason, the first link isn’t loading properly on my phone, but it has some images of these abandoned stations.

This thread makes me kinda sad.
Just times and things that will never be again.

    Downtown Rochester, Michigan.
I worked there for a while in my early twenties. I remember having cars lined up for a block down the street on Christmas Eve and me having six pumps going at the same time. I was fast back then. LOL
    The place isn't there anymore.
    And I'm not fast anymore.

That isn't the original Lucilles but a modern reproduction at Weatherford.. We stopped at the original Lucilles in 1995 and met the lady and she invited us inside where she lived as well as having the shop and servo. Lovely lady. She died in 2000 and I think the original building is still nearby and an important tourist attraction and heritage listed.
I found a recent YouTube video that shows the original Lucilles( see at 12.20 on the clip)

  29. Since closing as a gas station many years ago it has been a truck stop food joint and more lately a failed Road house and now a Diner. JW
