ks and his wife have moved back to mizzuo from california because ks' kids live there and his wife was having a hard time caring for him due to his alzheimers progression(his wife, is a super lady) my ks story: i brought my g***er to its first meet a few years back,it was about 75% finished. then there walking around the hotel parking lot is "KS PITTMAN"!!! i went over to him and asked him if he'd sign my car for me,he said sure. he sauntered his way over to my car, with his wife helping him walk, his legs are/were in tough shape. my girlfriend opened the drivers door so he could sign my dash, instead of leaning in, ks, who mind you has trouble getting around, climbs up over the rollbar(mine swings out too) we offered to swing it out and he said naaaaa, he plops down and theres my new g***er with ks sitting behind the wheel!! it is a priceless moment i will NEVER forget and remains the best day ive ever had with my car. below are some pics from my memorable day. scotty
Mike is right! This guy has earned respect in my book. I don't have anything to contribute other than some cashola.
oh my god, this has to be the all time coolest thing i ever read on the internet. way to honor a real hero in my book. pretty cool to sit n see their stuff n pictures. my stepdads cousin rolls into town time to time n i seen his s**** book of stuff from various things he was into and raced. their manthis engineering antique national flathead dragster they ran out in california. had some good stories and names with the pictures that at the time i didnt recognize. i was too young of a dumb kid to write down the stuff. soak it up while ya can.
I got to meet KS Pittman at the Muddy Water Nationals in Memphis, in the early 90's. He didn't bring his original car, it was a clone, but it was very nice. It was when we had another old altered and NDRA was still around. He ran it a couple of times for exhibition purposes. Really cool to see a legend run in my lifetime, considering I'm only 38. Not as cool as ya'lls story but still a story.
****, that's not too far from Mo-Kan, maybe he'd like to see a bunch of hot rods show up in the retirement home parking lot next august. it doesn't seem that long ago that he was still racing...
Damn. A friend of mine in NC was good friends with him. He used to talk about him all the time and about back when they raced g***ers together "back in the day". This was his car...wish I had some pics from back when Gwinn and his brother owned it.
I bet that would be cool , prolly have to check with the home to see if they will allow it, they have goofy rules about such things , J.A.T., ya might want to check with his family as well , something like that can get older folks worked up and MAY hurt more than help , I used to work at a geriatric VA hospital and I remember something about that. but if hes not to progressed ,I bet he would get a BIG kick out of some of the old timers and/or old style cars showing up as well, my wife works at a home and my car club goes over there once a year to let the folks get a look at our cars, not many come out cause it brings up old memory's the staff tell us.most of them are WWII /Korean wars eras. The ones that do come out enjoy the hell out of it , and we get tons of story's about what they had and where they went in their old cars-then new ,
My wife works in old folks homes, and she often comes home with sad tales of lonely old people, abandoned or forgotten by their families, who want nothing more than just to have a chat and a little one on one with someone who cares or is just prepared to sit and listen for a while. I'm pretty sure this guy would love to have a fellow petrolhead or two go visit and swap some stories. Not suggesting for a minute that our guy Pittman is actually abandoned or forgotten, he might be happy as Larry, but it'd be great just to make sure the guy is alright in the twilight of his years.
Just a bump to the top. Please check out the other post here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73525 Thanks!
