Hey cats. I'm a 58 y.o. computer geek and long-time grease monkey, with some boring modern cars and a couple old ones in need of restovation. I was kinda waiting until retirement to start working on them. The interruption of going to work at a real job every day is too much to deal with any more. Not like when I was in my 30's. Anyhow, nothing real exciting here, but a couple pics of my old junkers. '47 Plymouth club coupe. I didn't realize how ugly these actually were when I bought one. The idea was I could stuff a big engine in it. the damn thing ran so well for so long I just drove it until the paint wore off. then: Now: That funny hood ornament is a skateboard I built. I own quite a few. I still ride them too... The old Scout. Here's fodder for a unique chop... Scout turbo 4-banger in my garage: My '59 ranger, now loong gone...
plymouths are bad *** dude, dont let them fool you, highly under rated use it to your advantage. LOVE my 52 ply.
Thanks George. I'll bet it's quite cold there. I used to live in Duluth. It's been a good car mechanically. The stock running gear has all been rebuilt. I've never even changed it to 12 volts. Very close. If you've seen some cat in a helmet who looks way too old to be riding his outlandish skateboard, it was probably me. Since the mid 70's I've lived in Clovis & worked in Frezburg. I've been known to scope kemps by Chubbies at the Gettysburg address, but I haven't attended any real car "events" or hardly touched my fender dollies since the 90's. We've been driving...urk...stock Toyotas these days, and my only Kustom Kulture fix has come from customizing a leadsled motorcycle & building dozens of custom skateboards. In fact it's been almost 25 years since I sold the Edsel & quit driving the Plymouth. Over 20 since the scout was driven. Instead I took up flying with a friend who owns a sportplane. I've been involved in a motorcycle club (which sorta went ***s up) and I fixed up an old boat & took up fishing. Now that I'm older I may have enough patience to work on cars again. I'm getting the urge to buy a new set of torches and I've got way more lead lying around than the EPA wants to hear about. Anyhow I've been lurking about here, checking out threads about customizing, and I'm really starting to get the urge back again. I must say, for a H.A.M.B. this place sees a lot of action. I'm amazed at the number of new posts!
Welcome to the group from a really old geezer who knows nothing about computers or skate boards. Get the lead out and get back to work on the old cars.
Thank you all folks. What a warm welcome. Here's another old shot of the ol' Edsel. Here's a recent photo of my 2004 Kawasaki Nomad 1500 with all the accessories. I customized both the brake covers and the forks, so the 1999 parts fit on the 2004 model. The chrome side covers below the seat are hand made steel. the ones Kawasaki sells are stick-on plastic. : There's an old photo of my bike without some of the newer accessories, parked at work. Not my Porsche though. Lucky Porsche owner has a Jag too... Also, long gone, my '84 Dodge Van. Slant-6 with 4 on the floor. I was sorry to let this one go.
