I got an old glass filter that I picked up cheap it's a Carter small bowl. I was going to take it a part and clean it. I tried to blow thru it thru the in and out and no flow like it was plugged. So I went to take the bowl off and it is on there. I was thinking it should of come right off after I took the metal bracket off. Is there anything I can soak it in, I tried wd-40 on it and nothing. I don't want to break the glass.

Soak in a sealed container with lacquer thinner, or anything that swells rubber.

They usually come apart if you gently tap the glass a few times with a screwdriver handle. They get stuck to the gasket.

Personally I'd put the bale back on the damned thing and set it over on the treasure shelf in the man cave and let my buddies tell me how cool it is when they see it and be done with it. Every time I had to clean one of those things out I hated fooling with it and can't figure out why the hell guys think they are so great when they don't catch much of anything anyhow. You still have to have a real filter on the rig if you don't want the carb plugging up. I know all the guys who think they are cool will have a fit and fall in it but they didn't fight with the things in below 0 weather when they were servicing the equipment they were on. They do catch water in diesel fuel in farm tractors pretty well though.

Plan on getting a new gasket as most likely the one on it will not survive being taken apart but the guys gave you some good ideas on how to deal with it.

Here's how I got mine off while still on the car. 1) Loosen clamp and swing out of the way. 2) Attempt to wiggle bowl loose. 3) Walk over to tool box for prying lever. 4) Bowl should fall off on reaching tool box. 5) Buy replacement bowl.

I also had a carter fuel bowl that wouldn't budge after removing the bail. finally got to aggressive and broke the glass while prying and only then could see that it was also threaded and screwed in as well. I have only seen one other one like it but you might want to check.

so now I don't feel so bad .. some times you loosen the nut on the bail . wrap a good rag around it and give it a blast of air form a air nozzle tool ( low presure ) and they pop off , but make sure its wrapped with a rag and wear a glove incase it breaks
