I do like the look of 56 olds and 54 ford frenched lights but thats been done a lot. I'm not normally into the quads but when I photochopped it the quads looked good it even flows with the body lines on the hood. I think I'm going to mock up a set out of cardboard or fiberglass to see what it will really look like. I like that sinister look the front has with the quads on the computer but in person it might look dumb.

  2. What a great post and I think were going to see alot more of these done in the future.

Firstly, great choice of car and nice work done to date.
A question if I may about going from 4-door to 2-door. When you used the old rear door to fill the gap from the rear quarter panel to the new B-pillar location, how do you fill the gap at the bottom and rear edges where the rear door used to open? Just weld a rod in and fill it with mig weld and filler?

FWIW, I reckon the car looks great as is without the 'busy' quad headlights. I am more interested in what you decide on for tail lights and those little fins on the back.
    Thanks, Drew

This job looks like a massive amount of work requireing the talent of the likes of Barris. I just scored a '51 200 Delux Fordor last week. The old beast only has 31000 miles on it. One prepaint and some weather damage.

See the skidmark on the driveway. That's where the right front wheel was dragging. The brakes were totally filled with dirt and crud from sitting out in the country.

Please, please don't do the quads! The front end is perfect as is, that car is so unique I wouldn't change anything on that front end.

It's pretty much filled with weld and a fiberglass body filler and I'm not sure on the tail lights about all I can think of is if I french the headlights I was going to french the tail lights and part of the fins.

That Packard looks great Pigpen a lot of it looks like it's in better shape than my car.

I'd concentrate on the ass end if it was mine. People spend more time staring at the back of your car anyway, and that one reminds me of a checker cab a little. I'd round the deck lid corners, and fill the seems on that lower pan. Maybe a nice license surround, possibly from a 55 Pontiac, or a different bumper all together, then start looking for tail lights.

Man, that looks cool! Awesome work too, good on the both of ya. With the good flow the new roof line has, it seems to me that the top line and/or rear end of the quarter panels where that chrome is by the tail lights looks a little too square.. A little curvey action Somethin somethin might be called for..
IMO, absolutely no on the quad headlight arrangment.. Don't change stuff just to change it.. Now the olds treatment that someone mentioned might be cool.. Or even just frenched stockers?
The quad look just does say "class" to me..

Here is my front end idea. Buick style curved grille, Olds lights, extended forwards a couple of inches and lowered and I peaked the hood to cover up some of the slightly bulky Packard grille surround. These cars are quite "flat faced" and so extending the lights and hood helps give some shape to the nose.

I like the olds headlights but I wouldn't change the grill the factory version is just too cool to change and It's rare enough that a lot of people don't recognize it even Troy Trepanier didn't know what it was but he liked the grill when I showed him pics at Autorama. Thanks James D

Here you go then. I´d definitely consider my idea of peaking the hood over the grille top. It´d make the grille look a little less "stuck on".

I like that and peaking the hood over the grille looks cool It does help it look like the grille was made for the car rather than just bolted on. Thanks again James D

Great job again James D, I wouldn't change that grill either, it is a little "off beat" but I love it. The lights and peak look great though.
I think the rear end would look much better as I mentioned earlier, and I just took another look at the green one. Imagine those fender ends with the tail lights frenched. It would keep it packard, but that rounded fender would fit the chop better, or, 56 packards could be added, keeping it in the family as well, but they're so over done, that I'm getting a little tired of them now.
    Everybody's a critic!:D
