I am sort of embarr***ed to be asking this but I need some computer help. I do not post pictures that are on the internet and other sites. I just post from local shows and cruises. What I have been doing is taking pictures with my phone, going to Walgreens, and have a CD made. Then I load the CD into the computer and then upload the material onto the sight. My question is, how do I post pictures from my ANDROID phone directly to the appropriate H.A.M.B. sight threads. I appreciate you time and help.
I'm not familiar with the Android but if it has a charger cord that comes apart at the wall plug you can use that USB jack to connect directly to your lap top or desk computer. If not you need to buy a cord for your phone with a USB jack on one end. Cut or copy the pictures to your computer gallery or upload them directly from your phone to the Hamb. If you use the phone to get on the internet and view the Hamb then you can just upload your photos from your phone, no cords needed.
What he really wants to know is how to get the app and how to use it to post pics on the HAMB. I am a former iPhone user so I don’t know if I can help him. Is there anyone here using the app on an android phone that can help him step by step? How to find and upload the app and how to use it???
Well, he said he was old and not computer savvy. The way I posted will work and maybe that's all he needs. I'm not very savvy myself.
Wraymen, I do appreciate your post. I am going to have the wife look at it for me. Moriarity is correct in his last post also. My Gosh, what have I started?
I have an Android phone and I take pictures and e-mail them to myself then save them to my computer. I know this is b***-akwards, but it works for me. My charger cord is one that is also a USB cord so I suppose I could simplify things and plug the phone into my computer and ***emble the photos in a folder on my computer, then post to the HAMB from that folder. I'm tech challenged also and even older than wraymen!
I take maybe 40-45 pictures a month and get a CD made to upload to the site. It seems to work but there has to be a better and easier way. Also I have a stack of CD"s now taking up space. All of you have bent over backwards to help me, specially Moriarity. I really appreciate it. At 71, you would think I would know something other than duration and lift.
I'm using an Android Samsung phone. I'm writing this, below is a gray box that says photos, files. Click on that, pop up box says camera, gallery, attachment. If it's a picture you've taken it will be in gallery. This is one I took. Next picture is one I downloaded (attachment). So to me, it's easy, and I'm an old guy too. All of my pics go to my gallery. I just need a way to get them to the site from the Gallery, thanks for the heads up. The wife is doing the app thing now.
Don't let it get you down. Just remember what Joseph Campbell said "Computers are like Old Testament gods. Lots of rules and no mercy."
Sorry - I'm not sure on the Androids.... I have a iPhone - but as you said post 12 looks like it is spot on for Android users. I don't use the APP. When I down load pics it is from my PC.
I have the app all locked and loaded, I have looked at Post #12 and have also briefed the wife. I have pictures from a local cruise night that are new so all that is left is to put the information into use. Although I am a little nervous, I plan on testing my new info tomorrow. Thank you all for the help, I really appreciate it.
Somehow it is in the Antiquated section. To quote an old movie line... How can he possibly F*^k this up.
Hey S6, The HAMB app for the Android Phone is not the best way to transfer or upload photos to the HAMB site. (as far as I am concerned and I am an Android user since the beginning of cell phones.) Everything on the small screen is deadly for old guys, even ones with good eyes still not having to wear gl***es all of the time. The easiest way is to download or upload all of your Android Photos to your home laptop or computer folders labeled what you decide. A simple date and description keeps things organized. Make sure you have them saved as a JPEG photo files. (easier to adjust and copy/paste later) Then once in the laptop/home computer files/folders, now you can pick and choose what you want to post onto the HAMB threads. Individual photos stored in a folder called HAMB 2. Simplicity… From here, I can select the middle “Jpeg” photo to copy and paste onto a Word Do***ent. All stories and information is written on a Word Do***ent, first. Then you can insert your photo where you want. Now, you can see where a photo will be inserted to showcase some emphasis or describe what you are talking about in the story. I was doing a story on the 1934 coupe #222 and used this photo for inspiration. Once the post is finished with all the photos and wording, then you are ready to open the HAMB thread ***le. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/early-drag-racing-photos.1222399/page-19#post-14072001 Jnaki While writing the story, I copied and pasted the photos from my written copy directly to the HAMB thread. Pasting the words first, then copy/paste the exact photo inserted where it should show up on the post. You cannot copy the whole Word Do***ent, including photos and paste. All you will get will be blanks between the typed words, no photos will be accepted from the HAMB thread. So, that way, you will know where each photo copied and pasted will eventually be shown. Once everything is in place in the exact HAMB thread area, then all that is necessary is to make sure capitals, spelling, and paragraphs are in place. Question 1: What about the “UPLOAD THE FILE” tab? A lot of people have used this tab to success, but I have not, so I never use it to post photos of any kind. It is simple and easy to copy your own photo from the Word Do***ent and paste it in its adjusted size for clarity. I always skip this “upload a file” tab. Question 2: What about the “MORE OPTIONS” tab? If you click on “POST REPLY” and the photo is blurry or crooked, then you can edit the post by selecting EDIT. Once there, click on the MORE OPTIONS and now you will be able to paste in the corrected/edited clear photo for insertion. YRMV PM me for any other file/post options/questions from your phone or home computer/laptop. NOTE: If you have a bunch of photos on your camera or phone, download them to your computer for the first thing to save all of them. Then you can get a DVD made to watch any event continuously on any DVD Player or you can make a You Tube video of the whole event. But, it is difficult to get good photos off of a DVD for posting. Since you have moved the originals to your computer or laptop files, a DVD is for convenience of continuous playing. Since you already have a transfer service (hopefully, not Costco) you have a source to get all of your old VHS tapes and old movies transferred to a flash drive, too. That flash drive can be inserted in any usb port to play the films. Plus, now, you can copy and paste them to your larger home computer or laptop files for organization.
Thank you for taking the time to look at this old thread and offer help. Through experimentation and fumbling I have learned to post pictures. That is one thing that I have learned in the four years that I have been here.... whatever the problem, there are people who are ready, willing, and able to offer help. @Moriarity was, and continues to be, a major help answering absolutely dumb questions.
I thought the Hamb App was gonzo...I access the Hamb on my Chrome Browser on the Samsung Android doing much of my image loads directly from my phone...its more or less identical to the my Desktop Hamb I access from my Chrome or Mozilla Browser...I know I'm spoiled... Glad you can use CDs for something else @Sky Six...as I said before you are good with the camera... @lothiandon1940 are you still emailing your images to post them here?
The way I load pictures to my computer to my phone is pretty easy. If you have gmail or any other web based email. Just start an email and attach the picture. save it as a draft. no need to send it. Then just open your computer and go to your email and you will see in in the draft folder. you can then download the picture to your computer and BAM its on your computer. Then you can delete the draft email.
