I am 68 yrs. old and as many others started reading Hot Rod in grammar school as well as drawing hot rods. There were a few traditional hot rods in my small town ,but my Dad and uncle had a garage that was filled with early sportsman and amateur race cars. "Banjo" Mathews first garage was across the street. The car I drove to high school was a 40 Ford ,2 door Deluxe. I rebuilt a 56 Chev. 265 and installed in front of a 39 trans. The car was rolled and pleated when I got it. (black and white). The car only cost $75 when I got it and I cleaned out a huge chicken house for the 265. Not a lot of funds. When I graduated high school I applied and was accepted to the Art Center School College of Design in Hollywood. I sold the 40, bought a 58 Delray 2 door and with my new wife headed for LA. My art skills were not sufficient to stay at the Art Center but I loved every minute that we lived in LA. Never seen so may hot rods in my young life. Wanted to go to the drags every weekend but only got to go to Irwindale a few times. Anyway skip forward 50 yrs and here I am retired with time on my hands. I bought a 32 Ford roadster a few years ago (in pieces). The car was channeled but I will build as a highboy. Until I started reading HAMB I planned sbc, Muncie and 9" rear. I still have that stuff but went to 56 Ford F100 front brakes to go with my 59 Ford 9 inch. I also have a 53 Merc. engine that has almost no ring groove. Anyway Guys, I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know where I'm coming from. .
