Has anyone got some pictures of old cars with sbc engines fitted with rams horns as i want to see what they look like before i fit some ............Mad Marq p.s vintage pics would be nice too ,some nice high school car pics from the 50's
. 34 Ford P/U . . my Deuce P/U frame. A poor picture but you can get the idea of how they look in the frame. I like 'em!
Look in the "what color are small block chevy's" post. There is a Beautiful color shot of an early styled sbc with rams horns! Jay
Yeah they are real nice, mine have a few more lumps and bumps than those as i think they must be later ones. Can these lumps be ground off?..................Mad Marq

That's what I did yesterday. What you see here is the rough in using a 4" grinder to eliminate the GM logos, heavy pits and date codes. I eliminate the parting lines from the molds. I'll use a DA sander to get it to the final surface. Go slow cast iron is soft and it's easy to gouge it making more work. I like to use the Eastwood stainless brush on manifold paint. It's cheap, holds up and looks like a manifold. The lumps on the right are there for the dip stick. I left them.
You can get an idea of the finished product. . I guess you could say I like red primer. Lets see some pictures.
nice deuce Tommy,i tried to upload some pictures but the files seem too big and they are only 640x480 but it wont do it for some reason ,as for the truck i will get some digi pics of it soon i only have celluloid at the moment. So i take it the casting is thick enough to get rid of all the lumps?
I was a little nervous about the angled lump on the front hump. After looking at the color 34 P/U picture, I've got more work to do. If I remember right that is where the choke stove was tapped on the early manifolds. I'm going to take it off now. I just shoot for getting rid of the rust pits and smoothing things out. just detailing the stock design.
If you look at some old magazines from the 58-63 era you will see that about half of the SBC powered cars had Rams Horns and half of them run some sort of Lakes style header (mostly with straight cones, not the tapered ones we see alll the time today)
Back then header companys made headers to solve clearance problems or make duals possible where no factory manifold would work. Hedman 2 piece headers for Chevys showed up on some street cars(remember them?) but, it was a cost that wasn't absolutely necessary to get it on the road.
So on another note how many of the real true rods in the 50's were primer or suede cars in comparison to todays suede revival?......Mad Marq
After thinking a moment the choke stove was on the pass. side manifold. . This is the pass. side on the roadster. I eliminated the hump. . . But... I ground through and had to weld it up seen here. There was a hole for the tube already there. Most people don't notice it but most people don't notice how smooth the rams horns are either. I'm going to leave the bump on this one. That IS the way they came. . Just say.. no! to the primer-shiney debate. let's talk car parts.
Car parts well you would love my early british ford headlites then .They are 10 inch 7v ford lamps i got them new old stock not cheap mind but the vertical thick striped glass makes up for it.........Mad Marq
yeah now they are nice,if you got it flaunt it i say and white flaunts it they look fantastic...............................Mad Marq
Are you guys porting/cleaning up the guts of em? I've heard that just matching the ports and cleaning up the casting on the inside is good for some more horsepower!
