Old License Plates. Who’s got them?

Discussion in 'The Antiquated' started by 37hotrod, Jan 30, 2022.

  1. Couple more recent acquisitions. IMG_6831.jpeg IMG_6833.jpeg

  2. Finally found a fender mounted motorcycle plate. More correctly, I finally found one for what I thought was a reasonable price. One more plate to cross off the list. Still on the list is a Tennessee shaped plate, a U.S. Government plate, a leather plate…… the list goes on. :) IMG_6889.jpeg

Just got back from picking up stuff from the auction. These two bicycle plates had to come home with me. The square one is a wartime soybean plate. I had only ever seen the Illinois car plates. Never seen a soybean bike plate before, so I had to have it.

  7. Here’s a few more recent acquisitions, just to bring it back to the top.

One of these was at an auction where I bought some tools recently. It was really rusty, and the C in Chambersburg was completely gone. It went for more than I thought it was worth, so I looked on Ebay and found a much better one for less. I put electrical tape over the C for now. My new Hambersburg plate is now one of my favorites in my small collection. Hal Lowry Ford started business in '64, so it might even be Hamb era correct. hambplate.JPG

IMG_1223.jpeg I’ve got a few hung up over my work bench, but have milk crates full that I haven’t hung. Someday when I get all my project cars rolling, maybe I’ll hang some more.

  14. Here’s my latest haul. I realized, after moving three time in two years, that I don’t have a single plate hung up anymore. Probably won’t remedy that until I settle into a more permanent place.

  15. More plates followed me home. Montana motorcycle plate, and Denver bicycle plates. Have no idea what the Maryland plate is all about. Anybody got a clue?

  16. Hard to see because of the glare on the cover. But it's the tag issued to this car in 1969. Has been with it ever since. I did a shaky hand resto on it but it's presentable. I'll see if I have a better pic IMG_20240612_205214625.jpg

These were off of my dads old Checker Marathon 4 door road tank!
That was the only open parking space that day.
I would never go into a place like that.
I went across the street to the place that said EAT!

  20. No wonder I can’t find any Tennessee shaped plates. @pigIRON63 has them all!!! I still need one for the collection.

  22. More plates arrived at the house today. The three euro plates are Germany, Netherlands and UK. The “Floridablanca” plate is from Colombia.

My Dad had a pair of those license plate key tags for his 1967 Pontiac Catalina when I was a little kid; I think you could just send away for them in the mail back then. For some reason I liked to play with them; later on Dad let my brother play with them as well until the time he tossed the keys in the trunk just before Dad closed it :). Dad had to take the back seat out so I could crawl in there to retrieve the keys!

Unissued, traces of protective paper still there. Considering they were under the seat of a '49 Cad with the door glasses broken out, they survived pretty well. HPIM7398.JPG HPIM7399.JPG
