Hey! So, after a 7 year hiatus due to relocating to Ohio, divorce, then relocating back to NC now that the kids are off to college...I can get the car out of storage and start again, so I'm back on the HAMB...I've got a question, because wheels were damaged/lost and the tires dry-rotted... 38 Chevy 4 door, the goal is a late 50s taildragger. It's been dropped ( air suspension, yeah, I know...) I just got new wheels, 15x7 steels in back, 15x6 in front. Just as decent rollers (to get it back to NC) until I can get it running and am willing/able to drop coin for WWs, what are decent size tires that won't have rubbing issues (stock fenders front and rear)? I'm in NC, and about to go back to Ohio to get it, so can't even look to see what's on it, now. Thanks all, looking forward to getting back into it! Steve
Stock chevy's probably had 600 or 700 16's. Height likely not an issue anyway but the offset on the new wheels may be. It would be nice if you could borrow a set of wheels/tires just to get it home then take some time to figure out what you want. Look around here on the hamb for styles you like.
You're right, I wish I could just borrow some, but being out of state so long, I don't have any contacts. Thanks for the size recommendation, but I'm needing recent tire size, as it's just cheap rollers to get it on the trailer, then work on it in the garage...like 205 70r15, or something.
205 or 215 ---75's would be better on the width. What the manufacturers call 85's are close to stock width.
WWs still look great but I think they are kind of in a declining state from popularity because of being so overdone in the past several years. or thats my take on em, but if you like em just because you like em and are not burned out on seeing em, please proceed. They still make the vehicle on some builds, not so much on others, thats just my .02
Steve , you picked a good state to move back to.I am over here in East T.n. Sevierville T.N. near dollywood .Bruce.
Thanks, guys! Just found some cheap 205 75r15s...that'll get me where I need to be! Understood on tired of WW...it'll probably be a couple of years before that's even an issue!
Thought I was the only one who had life get in the way on projects. I'd say use the rollers until everything is squared away on the car and then go for the new wide whites so they will be fresh tires when you start cruising. I've seen too many dry rotted sets of tires with the****s still showing that gave out waiting for the car to be done as they were the first thing bought for the car when the project started.
