We're amazed by all the mods that have been done to that body, Lars. Do you have any shots of where the windshield posts meet the cowl? Those windshield posts look handmade. Are the door tops cut down? How's the deck lid hinged?

C'mon fellas, someone has to have some history...

I really like the front end; spring ahead, like the old builds always were around here. Most people hate that style, but not me.

Also, those hairpins are unique and very wild :)

I need to get my brother's slides from his widow. We went to Oakland, Sac, San Jose, and other shows every year from '59 to the mid '60s. We took hundreds of pictures and he kept everything. His were all slides and haven't been viewed in 40 years. It's time.

Yeah it should have been there from 58 to 63 though since metal flake was in 61 my guess is 62 would be the best year to look for it. in its current form. But with that Grill its hard to miss it. I can not believe no one here remembers this car.

Very interesting car. I've got some mags from back then but I don't remember the car. The front grille is one of the features I'm not digging 100%, still OK for the era, just not my cup of tea.
I'm betting the HAMB detectives will unearth everything about this car in the next 24-48 hours.

Nice pick Lars. It definately looks like a show winner. Looks like Blackies style of cars, he might know. Very cool.

Are there any signs of another paint job (different color). Looks familiar to me but my mind is telling me more of a dark metalic red/burgundy color. I dont know, just a thought...

  24. Ralph Whitworth owns it. That is the Tom Cobbs roadster from the late 40s early 50s it was built in So-Cal. Ralph is a member on here, goes by "Rodster".

What a great find! I'll keep my eyes open for the car as I read through my daily doze of little mags!

This was posted in the Matranga Merc @ 1951 Oakland Roadster Show thread

The windshield posts, hood and sides, hood straps, steering box location, grille all appear to match up. The only things different are the frame horns, Nerf bar and body reveal mods. I still feel strongly that Harry Westergard did the body work as he'd done at least half a dozen other cars with the body reveals shrunk out including the 1951 AMBR winner of Rico Squaglia.

If it was in Oakland you need to talk to Blackie. He Has not missed a Grand National. He also owns many of the past winners.
